THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg, ranked eighth in the latest USILA Div. II coaches' poll, scored four goals in a 6-minute, 24-second span to turn an 8-6 deficit into a 10-8 lead and defeat No. 12 Swarthmore 12-11 in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.
THE LEADERS
•
Charlie Johnson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) led the Bullets with six goals and four ground balls.

Will Hedley (Charlotte, N.C./The Hotchkiss School) paced the defense with five ground balls and two caused turnovers to go with an assist.
FOR THE FOES
• Clay Almgren led the Garnet with four goals.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a defensive battle early, Clay Almgren opened the scoring, finishing a feed from Emmett Harris with 9:24 to go in the first quarter.
Brian Delduchetto (Weston, Conn./Weston) caught Swarthmore in transition and fired home his first collegiate goal with 6:09 on the clock to tie the game.
Jackson Hearn (Houston, Texas/Episcopal Bellaire) hit
Jack Dunleavy (New Providence, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) on the doorstep for a 2-1 lead just over two minutes later.
Jackson Barroll (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) then fired one home from the wing with 1:59 showing for a 3-1 lead after one quarter.
• Almgren bookended a Michael Hardiman goal for three straight unassisted Garnet goals in a 6-minute, 16-second span to reclaim the lead 4-3 midway through the second.
Charlie Johnson finished an
Ethan Kessler (Ridgefield, Conn./Millbrook School) feed for the equalizer with 5:44 on the clock before a Nolan Ohrman man-up tally put Swarthmore back in front with 3:55 to play. Almgren found the back of the net for the fourth time just 30 seconds later before Johnson finished from Hearn to make it a one-goal game with 1:41 remaining in the opening half.
• Dunleavy then found Johnson just 3:28 on the third period to tie the game once again. Owen Hoffman and Ohrman, however, scored just over two minutes apart for an 8-6 lead with 4:12 to play in the third. Another Dunleavy-to-Johnson connection with 3:30 on the clock closed the deficit to one heading to the final quarter.
• Barroll found the back of the net for the second time with 13:22 showing before Johnson put the hosts in front with 12:14 to play. The Bullets won the ensuring faceoff and
Will Hedley immediately found Johnson for a 10-8 lead just eight seconds later. Danny Lowe put the deficit to one with 4:44 remaining but
Patrick Maroney (Hingham, Mass./Boston College H.S.) from a tight angle on the right side to reestablish the two-goal lead two minutes later. Ryder Maston cut the margin back to one with 1:31 to play. Swarthmore won the next faceoff but the defense forced a turnover. Kessler scored on a wide open cage with 0.5 seconds left before a faceoff violation gave Liam Halstead the ball and he whipped in the final goal as the horn sounded for the one-goal margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg finished with a 52-29 advantage in shots, including 34-9 in the second half.
• Drew Tyson made 20 saves in goal for the Garnet.
• Both teams won 13 faceoffs.
Tate Kuster (Williamstown, Mass./The Williston Northampton School) won seven of those for the Bullets.

Andy Marquet (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) picked up four ground balls for Gettysburg.
