THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg, ranked 15th in the latest D3baseball.com poll, exploded for 26 runs in the first game to run-rule Muhlenberg 26-1 in the Centennial Conference opener before the Mules rallied in game two to forge a split, 8-5.
THE LEADERS
•
Jack Burke (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) led the Bullets with five hits in the doubleheader with six RBIs and six runs scored. He had two home runs in the first game.
FOR THE FOES
• Marc Quarrie led the Mules with five hits of his own in the two games. He also scored three runs.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Muhlenberg scored the first run of game one before Gettysburg scored the final 26. Marc Quarrie singled with one out in the bottom of the first before stealing second and scoring on a two-out Brendan Hughes double.
• The Bullets drew even in the third inning.
Robert Murphy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) was hit by a pitch with one out before
Jack Burke reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a
Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) double.
• A five-run fourth inning kicked off a run of 25 runs over a four-inning span.
Matt Nichols (White Plains, N.Y./Byram Hills) walked to lead off the fourth before
Adam Hicks (Edgewater, Md./Gilman School) singled. After a sacrifice and wild pitch made it 2-1,
Andrew McGowan (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) lofted a sacrifice fly to center for a 3-1 lead. Another hit batter, Murphy double and Burke two-run home run made it 6-1.
• Nichols doubled with one out in the fifth before a Hicks walk and
Jack Amirata (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) single stretched the lead to 7-1. Two more free passes made it 8-1 before a Murphy single and Burke grand slam capped a seven-run inning to make it 13-1.
• Nichols started the sixth with another single before a hit batter and Amirata single extended the lead to 14-1. With two outs, Murphy and Burke each singled around a wild pitch for a 16-1 lead. A Pistner double and
Will Stellato (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) two-run single stretched the lead to 19-1 after six.

Hunter Del Guercio (Millstone, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) singled to lead off the seventh. A walk and singles from
Liam Gregory (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and
Ben Leshgold (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) around two walks and two hit batters opened up a 23-1 lead. Del Guercio had a second single in the inning for a 24-1 lead before a walk and error set the final score.
• Gettysburg picked right back up in game two with an error and one-out Stellato single staking the visitors to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
• A one-out Quarrie home run and back-to-back triples from Spencer Hobson and Hughes in the bottom of the first turned the one-run deficit into a one-run lead.
• In the top of the third, Burke led off with a single before a groundout and error allowed him to score the tying run.
• A Sean Habeeb triple and Jack Kent sacrifice fly to start the bottom of the fifth gave the Mules a 3-2 edge.
• With one out in the sixth, Amirata singled before
Henry Smith (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) walked. After a pitching change,
Dominick Balsamo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) tripled for a 4-3 advantage. Murphy followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-3.
• Habeeb singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh before a Quarrie two-out single. Hobson had a two-run double to tie the game before Hughes blasted a two-run home run for a 7-5 lead. A walk, stolen base and Mike Carcich RBI single set the final score.
THE INSIDE STORY
• The 26 runs scored were the most ever scored by Gettysburg in a Centennial Conference game and the 25-run margin of victory is also the largest in conference history for the Bullets.

Jack Burke had three hits, four runs and six RBIs in game one including his first collegiate two-home run game.
Robert Murphy was also 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Jack Pistner,
Matt Nichols,
Jack Amirata and
Hunter Del Guercio all had two hits as part of an 18-hit attack in the opener.

Alex Wilkie-Viscio (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) struck out three and walked one in six innings of work to improve to 4-0 on the mound.
• Burke, Stellato, Amirata and
Henry Smith all had two hits each in game two.

James Weedon (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Chaminade) struck out five in five innings pitched in game two.
