THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg, ranked seventh in the latest USILA Div. III coaches' poll, scored seven of the last nine goals to overcome an 8-4 third-quarter deficit and defeat Franklin & Marshall 11-10 in overtime.
THE LEADERS

Ethan Kessler (Ridgefield, Conn./Millbrook School) led the Bullets with four goals, including the game-winner nearly midway through the first overtime period. He was the only Gettysburg player with multiple goals.
FOR THE FOES
• Mason Montrella was one of three Diplomats with hat tricks, adding three ground balls and caused turnover to his three goals.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Dillon Mannix finally broke a scoreless deadlock with 2:54 to play in the first quarter, staking Franklin & Marshall to a 1-0 lead.
Patrick Maroney (Hingham, Mass./Boston College H.S.) responded in the final six seconds of the opening period to tie the game at 1-all.

Ethan Kessler then needed less than a minute in the second quarter to give Gettysburg a 2-1 lead. Jack Luviano responded to tie the game one again with 12:49 on the clock.
Frank Barbera (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) scored in transition from his defensive teammate
Andy Marquet (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) for a 3-2 lead with 8:41 showing. Three straight goals from the Diplomats, including back-to-back Mason Montrella tallies, gave the hosts a 5-3 lead with 5:47 remaining in the opening half. Kessler got the game deficit back to one less than a minute later but Kai Kelly and Luviano both found the back of the net for the second time to extend the lead to 7-4 at the break.
• Montrella capped his hat trick 4:19 into the third quarter for the largest lead of the game by either team.
Luke Barbera (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) joined his older brother in the scoring column with 9:40 showing, starting a four-goal run.
Jackson Alpaugh (Darien, Conn/Westminster School),
Jackson Barroll (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) and
Matt Maciolek (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) all scored in the run to tie the game at 8-all with 2:48 to play in the third period. Kelly completed his hat trick with 1:44 for a 9-8 edge after three quarters.
• A Kessler solo run knotted the game at 9-all with 9:18 to play before
Jack Dunleavy (New Providence, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) added a goal just one minute later to his earlier assist, giving the Bullets their first lead since the first quarter. Luviano netted his third of the day to tie the game with 3:05 showing.
• After both teams had a chance at the game-winner late in regulation, Gettysburg had possession in overtime and took a timeout with 2:43 showing. Maroney got the ball up top and fired a pass to Kessler right in front of the crease and Kessler converted his fifth game-winner of the season.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg posted its first 8-0 regular season conference slate since 2018 and is the top seed in next week's conference tournament.
• The Bullets finished with a 40-39 edge in shots.

Andy Marquet had three ground balls and a caused turnover to go with his first assist of the season.

Murphy Hoey (Fairfield, Conn./Berkshire School [Mass.]) made 12 saves in goal for Gettysburg.
NEXT UP
Gettysburg will host one of the Centennial Conference tournament semifinal games on Friday against the winner of Tuesday's first-round game between Muhlenberg and Franklin & Marshall. Game time will be announced on Monday.
