THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Jackson Hearn (Houston, Texas/Episcopal Bellaire) opened the scoring for Gettysburg, finishing an
Ethan Kessler (Ridgefield, Conn./Millbrook School) assist just 1:20 into the game. Tommy Baldini had the answer just 76 seconds later, depositing a pass from Landen Hyatt. Ethan Ferrant gave Dickinson a 2-1 led with 9:02 to play before Ramsey Huggins stretched the lead to 3-1 with 8:33 showing.
• After the defenses reigned for the remainder of the first quarter,
Jack Dunleavy (New Providence, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) found
Jackson Barroll on a cross-field pass to cut the margin to 3-2 less than a minute into the second quarter. Huggins responded with his second unassisted tally of the night with 10:54 to play but Dunleavy connected with Hearn to make it 4-3 midway through the period. Huggins and Ethan Gess stretched the lead to 6-3, scoring 11 seconds apart for the Red Devils' largest lead of the night with 6:24 on the clock.
Matt Maciolek (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Andy Marquet found the back of the net eight second apart to close the deficit to 6-5 with 91 seconds left in the opening half. Gettysburg thought it had the equalizer but a crease violation was called to keep it a one-goal game at the break.
•
Patrick Maroney (Hingham, Mass./Boston College H.S.) needed just 49 seconds of the third quarter to in fact find the equalizer before
Stokes Myers (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) found the back of the net just shy of minute later for the hosts' first lead since 1-0. Barroll made it a 8-6 game with 7:38 showing before Hyatt reeled off a natural hat trick in just 2 minutes, 17 seconds for a 9-8 edge with 2:39 to play. Kessler finished from Hearn to tie the game with 1:20 on the clock but Joey Wood scored directly off a Ben Trucksess faceoff win to put the visitors back in front 10-9 after three quarters.
• Barroll finished low off a pass from
Charlie Johnson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) in transition to draw even once against with 11:24 to play. Luke Whalen and Myers traded goals exactly one minutes apart to make it an 11-all game with 7:04 remaining. Dunleavy then gave Gettysburg a 12-11 edge with 3:30 to play but Whalen finished on the doorstep with 59.8 seconds remaining. Both goalies came up with big stops in the final minute to send the game to overtime.
• After both defenses stood tall through the first three minutes of the extra session, Kessler drove from the top and ripped the game-winner from 15 yards out with 40.7 seconds remaining.
