Three Gettysburg players named ABCA All-Region

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three members of the Gettysburg baseball team have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region 5 team, released on Tuesday.

Jack Burke (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was named to the first team while Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Robert Murphy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) were tabbed to the second team.

Burke, a senior outfielder, earned his first all-region nod after being named first-team All-Centennial Conference (CC) this spring. Starting all 41 games, he was second on the team with a .382 batting average. He recorded a team-high 66 hits that included a team-best 20 doubles to go with a triple and seven home runs for a .630 slugging percentage. He was second on the team with 43 RBIs and had team-best 65 runs scored. He finished the year with a 1.095 OPS, recording 19 multi-hit games that included 10 games with three or more hits.

Pistner, a senior second baseman, earned his second straight second-team all-region nod after being tabbed honorable mention all-conference. Starting all 41 games, he rapped out 61 hits and posted a .370 batting average. He recorded nine doubles, five triples and nine home runs among his knocks for a team-best .648 slugging percentage. He led the team with a program-record 66 RBIs while also scoring 45 runs. He also drew 35 walks for a .478 on-base percentage and 1.126 OPS. He recorded 19 multiple-hit games and had a 5-for-6 day against Lasell on Mar. 15. At McDaniel on Apr. 18, he hit a conference-record-tying three home runs with seven RBIs.

Murphy, a junior shortstop, claimed his first all-region honor after being named honorable mention all-conference for the first time. Starting all 41 games, he paced the team with 38 walks while also recording 48 hits. His .397 average and .561 on-base percentage led the team. He added 24 RBIs and 45 runs scored while chipping in five doubles. He had 14 games with multiple hits. Defensively, he made just six errors in 172 fielding chances at shortstop for a .965 fielding percentage. He was also part of 15 double plays turned by the Bullets.

Burke is the first Bullet to be named first-team all-region since Chuck Probst in 2017. Pistner is the first two-time all-region player since Eric Hungerford in 2014 and 2015.

The Bullets finished the season with an overall record of 30-11 (9-9 CC) and earned the fifth seed in the CC tournament, falling to McDaniel in the opening round.
