THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg won each set by an increasing larger margin to sweep Oberlin 3-0 in the opening match of the Messiah Invitational.

THE LEADERS
Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) led the Bullets, matching her career high with 12 kills on 15 swings with no errors to hit .800 in the match. She also added an ace, four digs and two blocks.
• Kendell Erpenbeck (San Jose, Calif./Prospect) chipped in 17 assists, four aces and seven digs.

FOR THE FOES
• Brylie Peters led the Yeowomen with 12 kills and three total blocks.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• The first set featured six ties and three lead changes. Two Mary Huegel kills and an Ava Grall (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) staked Gettysburg to an early 4-1 lead. Back-to-back Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) kills stretched the lead to 9-4 and forced a timeout. A Jillian Jendsen ace capped a 7-2 counter that to tie the set at 11-all. Neither team led by more than two points until an Emma Bradshaw (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) kill made it 18-15 and started a run of four straight points by the Bullets. Oberlin closed back to within 23-21 but Bradshaw sandwiched two kills around a Gettysburg error for a 25-22 first-set win.
• Tied at 3-all in the second set, an Alycen Radolovic (Willoughby, Ohio/Beaumont School) kill gave the Bullets the lead they didn't relinquish the rest of the way. Holding a 9-7 edge, Kierra Fox (Phoenix, Ariz./Rancho Solano Prep School) dropped in an ace to spark a mini 3-0 burst that pushed the lead to five. Huegel later added four kills in a five-point stretch to extend the advantage to 16-9 en route to a 25-18 victory.
• Kendell Erpenbeck served four straight points to start the third set, including one of her aces. The lead maintained between three and five until kills from Gonzalez and Ellen Manke (Madison, N.J./Morristown Beard School) helped extend the lead to 12-3. Oberlin used a 4-0 stretch to close to within 14-9 but two more Erpenbeck aces helped push the lead out to 18-10. Huegel then served the final five points to close out a 25-14 win.
