LANCASTER, Pa. – Gettysburg earned top billing in the annual Centennial Conference (CC) preseason women's lacrosse poll.
The Bullets garnered 62 points, edging second-place Franklin & Marshall by three points. Gettysburg also claimed six first-place votes while the Diplomats claimed the other three.
The Orange and Blue return three of the five players who netted 40 or more points last season.
Julia Daly (McLean, Va./Langley) led the team with 64 goals, 51 assists and 115 points. She also added a team-high 26 caused turnovers to go with 35 ground balls.
Michaela Kelly (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added 27 goals, 39 assists and 66 points. She chipped in 22 ground balls.
Sarah Scollin (Oreland, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) rounds out the trio lead the returning attack, contributing 30 goals and 16 assists for 46 points.
Grace Battle (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal School) anchors the draw unit, corralling 86 draw controls for a unit that won more than 54 percent of the draws last season. She also contributed 21 goals and seven assists for 28 points.
Ella Patterson (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and
Camryn Epstein (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) are back to lead the defensive unit, ranking second and third on the team in caused turnovers with 24 and 21, respectively. Epstein also had 30 ground balls while Patterson picked up 25.
The Bullets were fourth in both the USA Lacrosse Magazine and IWLCA preseason polls.
Gettysburg opens the season at home against No. 10 Denison on Saturday, Feb. 21. Game time is 1 p.m.
