Christopher Newport, ranked third in the USILA Div. III preseason poll, went on an 8-1 run in the second half to break open a tie game and defeat No. 9 Gettysburg, 16-9.

• Jackson Shaw and Jude MacLean staked Christopher Newport to a 2-0 lead just 1:53 into the game before
Will Hedley (Charlotte, N.C./The Hotchkiss School) found the back of the net in a man-down situation to cut the deficit in half with 12:44 on the clock.
Jackson Alpaugh finished a
Jackson Hearn (Houston, Texas/Episcopal Bellaire) feed to tie the game with 1:54 to play in the opening stanza.

Jacob Goldstein (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) then hit Alpaugh directly off the opening faceoff of the second quarter for a 3-2 Gettysburg lead. Three different Captains found tallied goals in a seven-minute stretch to take a 5-3 edge with 5:36 to play in the second quarter.
Will Schwanke (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) tallied his first collegiate marker with 4:03 to play before Hearn finished a
Luke Barbera (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) to tie the game 43 seconds later. MacLean and Jamie Smith each scored for CNU in the final 1:32 of the half to take a 7-5 lead to the break.

Jackson Barroll (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) hit Alpaugh then the back of the net himself to retie the game with 10:04 showing. Two more Smith tallies 46 seconds apart and three from the senior over the final 8:39 of the quarter gave the Captains an 11-5 lead heading to the final period.
• Barbera found
Ethan Kessler (Ridgefield, Conn./Millbrook School) less than a minute into the fourth quarter but a pair of man-up goals keyed another run of four straight goals that ballooned the lead to 15-8 with 7:01 to play. Hearn connected with
Patrick Maroney (Hingham, Mass./Boston College H.S.) with 2:50 remaining before Smith capped his six-goal day with a solo run.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg finished with a 56-32 advantage in shots but Christopher Newport had the edge on goal, 23-22.

Jacob Goldstein won 20 of the 26 faceoffs he took, picking up 10 ground balls.
