THE REST OF THE STORY
• Two baskets from Jocelyn Goldstein and a Lauren Knudson 3-pointer staked Johns Hopkins to a 7-2 lead in the game's opening three minutes. Trailing 10-4 on another Knudson triple, Gettysburg got one free throw from
Olivia Jones (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) and a
Briana Robles (Westchester, N.Y./Poly Prep) to claw back within two with 4:09 to play. The Blue Jays extended the lead back to six before two
Kimberly Hopkins (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) free throws with 52 ticks remaining made it a 16-14 game after one quarter.
• After Knudson and
Reagan Chrencik (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) traded baskets to start the second quarter, Johns Hopkins scored six in a row to take an eight-point lead with 7:22 on the clock. Gettysburg scored nine of the next 12, however, to close back to within 27-25 on a
Sasha Brody triple. Another Brody triple made it a one-point game with 4:25 showing. A Goldstein putback and a Knudson 3-pointer stretched the lead back to six en route to a 40-32 halftime lead.
• An
Amanda Rapel (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) 3-pointer and
Skylar Reale (Warren, N.J./Morristown Beard) basket cut the deficit to three just 1:05 into the third quarter. The lead remained between three and six points until a 7-0 burst gave Johns Hopkins a 51-41 lead with 1:52 to play.
• Leading 53-46 heading to the final period, Goldstein hit jumper and Knudson drained a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired for a 58-46 lead. Trailing 66-55 after two Goldstein free throws with 4:41 to play, Hopkins drove and hit a layup with 4:16 left. Rapel cut the deficit to six with a 3-pointer at the 1:29 mark and Jones got an offensive rebound and drove for an old-fashioned three-point play to make it a one-possession game with 38.6 seconds on the clock.
