THE REST OF THE STORY
• Riley Hastings and
Jackson Hearn (Houston, Texas/Episcopal Bellaire) traded unassisted markers in the game's first three minutes before Will Rubley and Spencer Vandenberg scored 21 seconds apart to give Lynchburg a 3-1 edge with 4:28 to play in the opening period.
Patrick Maroney (Hingham, Mass./Boston College H.S.) cut the deficit in half with 2:43 showing but Hastings converted a man-down tally in the final minute to push the lead back to two after one quarter.
•
Ethan Kessler (Ridgefield, Conn./Millbrook School) deposited a pass from
Luke Barbera (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) in the back of the net just 2:11 into the second period. After Kolbe Haug and
Ryan Sims (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep) traded goals 30 seconds apart, Liam Holman started a 3-0 Hornets run over just 2 minutes, 12 seconds for an 8-4 lead. Tallies from Hearn and
Nicholas Limberg (Dix Hills, N.Y./John the Baptist Diocesan) 26 seconds apart cut the deficit in half but a Hubley man-up marker with 1:45 on the clock stretched the lead to 9-6 at the break.
• After
Matt Maciolek (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) made it a two-goal game once again, Hastings responded to make it 10-7 with 5:55 showing. A Holman man-up tally extended the lead to four but
Charlie Johnson put together a natural hat trick, scoring twice in the final 1:32 of the third quarter and cutting the deficit to 11-10 with 12:52 to play off a feed from Hearn.
• Hastings found Holman with 10:42 on the clock then scored his fifth nearly a minute later for a three-goal lead. Two more Johnson solo runs make it a 13-12 game with 6:57 to play before Maciolek found the back of the net for the second time with the equalizer at the 3:33 mark. Hearn once again found Johnson, who gave the Bullets their first lead with 1:44 to play. Maroney then took advantage of a restart off a penalty and scored on a wide-open cage for an insurance goal with 28 seconds left.
