Gettysburg travels to Washington and Lee for opening weekend of NCAA tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Gettysburg will travel to Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., for the 2026 NCAA Division III men's basketball first and second rounds, beginning on Friday.

The Bullets (21-6) earned an automatic bid into the field of 64 with its seventh Centennial Conference (CC) title, defeating Johns Hopkins 68-59 on Sunday in Baltimore. It was the fifth straight conference title for the Orange and Blue.

Gettysburg is making its 13th NCAA tournament appearance and its eighth straight. The Bullets will take on Christopher Newport in Friday's first-round game at 5:30 p.m. The host Generals will play St. Mary's (Md.) in the second game at 8 p.m. The winners will meet in Saturday's second round at 8 p.m.

This will be the fifth all-time meeting between Gettysburg and Christopher Newport. The Captains (23-4) won the C2C title by a 73-57 margin over Salisbury on Saturday. The teams have met once previously in the NCAA tournament, a 70-67 win by Christopher Newport in Gettysburg on Mar. 1, 2019.

Washington and Lee (27-0), ranked fourth in the latest D3hoops.com poll, earned an automatic qualifier from the ODAC, defeating Randolph-Macon 67-56 on Sunday while St. Mary's (23-5) won the United East with a 73-47 victory over Penn State-Abington for the automatic bid.

Senior Kimberly Hopkins (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) leads a balanced Gettysburg scoring at 9.0 points per game. Freshman Olivia Jones (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) is averaging 8.2 ppg while junior Reagan Chrencik (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury), and freshman Sasha Brody (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal School) are chipping in 7.6 ppg and sophomore Amanda Rapel (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) is at 7.4 ppg. Rapel leads the team with 21 3-pointers while Chrencik leads the team with 32 blocked shots is second on the team in rebounding at 5.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore Adeline Standish (Avon, Conn./Avon) also has 32 blocked shots. Jones is second on the team with 39 steals.

Junior Skylar Reale (Warrenton, N.J./Morristown Beard) leads the team in rebounding (6.7 rpg) and steals (43). Sophomores Briana Robles (Westchester, N.Y./Poly Prep) and Ava O'Neil (Chevy Chase, Md./St. John's College) lead the team in assists with 51 and 49, respectively.
