THE SKINNY STORY
A four-run third inning staked McDaniel to a lead that it did not relinquish to complete the season sweep of McDaniel, 9-4.
THE LEADERS
•
Will Bercaw (Langhorne, Pa./The Pennington School) led the Bullets with two hits on the afternoon.
FOR THE FOES
• Shane Daly was one of four Green Terror players with three hits. He was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBIs and a walk.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Will Bercaw led off with a single before stealing second. After
Robert Murphy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) walked, a
Mike Coleman (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) sacrifice fly plated Bercaw but the Bullets ultimately stranded two runners in scoring position – the first two of 11 left on in the game.
• Quinn Dean led off the third with a four-pitch walk before a fielder's choice. A Patrick Kelly double put two in scoring position before Shane Daly tied the game with a single to right. A Thomas Mezzullo single up the middle made it 2-1 before a Ben Davis single and Shea McKenna groundout made it 4-1.
• A single, walk and bunt single that was ruled to have just stayed fair loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Davis then drew a walk to stretch the lead to 5-1.
• With two outs in the home fifth,
Jack Amirata (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) dropped a single into right to start a rally.
Dominick Balsamo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) doubled to the gap and
Will Roche (Milton, Mass./Boston College H.S.) poked a single to right-center to cut the deficit to 5-3.
• A Daly leadoff triple and one-out Davis single pushed the advantage back to three in the sixth before a single, sacrifice and two-base wild pitch made it 7-3 in the seventh.
• A Coleman fielder's choice and stolen base coupled with a two-out error closed the margin to 7-4 in the home seventh.
• McDaniel tacked on two more in the ninth on a Daly two-run single up the middle against a drawn-in infield.
THE INSIDE STORY
•
Robert Murphy drew two walks for the Bullets, who were issued eight free passes on the day.
