Today's non-conference game between Gettysburg (0-0) and Sewanee (0-0) is the second all-time meeting in the series. The Tigers won the only previous meeting last year in Tennessee. It is also the second all-time meeting between Gettysburg and Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans won the only previous match 4-1 in the championship game of the 2006 ECAC tournament.

WHEN LAST WE MET: An 11-minute stretch of the first half yielded all of the offense the entire game would see with Sewanee bookended a Gettysburg goal for a 2-1 victory in the season opener for both teams last season. Chase Sempervive scored the goal for the Bullets. Tyler Scott netted the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

LAST TIME OUT: Gettysburg opened the scoring in the eighth minute for a lead that held until the 82nd minute, when the two teams traded goals for a 2-1 Bullet victory in the 2023 season finale against Ursinus. Zion Williams scored the first goal in the opening half. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

BUILDING BLOCKS: The Bullets finished the 2023 campaign with a 1-1-2 record over their final four games and return nearly all of their offensive production from a year ago. Of the 20 goals and 55 points scored last season, Gettysburg brings back 19 goals and 52 points to the 2024 roster. Collectively, the Bullets return all but one field player who started more than four games last season. The biggest question entering the new year will be a new netminder. The Bullets have no goalkeepers on the roster with collegiate varsity game experience.

LAST TIME OUT: Sewanee capped a 6-5-6 season with a 2-0 loss to Oglethorpe in the semifinals of the SAA tournament last fall. Nathan Vanhoeve recorded eight saves in goal for the Tigers. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

GO EAST, YOUNG MAN: Sewanee opens the 2024 season with a trip to the Mid-Atlantic to face a pair of Centennial Conference foes. After tonight's game, the Tigers travel to Baltimore to take on Johns Hopkins on Sunday morning. The squad will then return home for a pair next weekend against two Old Dominion Athletic Conference foes.

BACK FOR MORE: Sewanee returns four of the six players who scored more than one goals for the Tigers last season. Tyler Cozzie, who found the back of the net six times, returns to lead the offense. Nathan Vanhoeve returns to backstop the defense after playing nearly two-thirds of the minutes between the pipes with a 0.97 goals-against average and .831 save percentage. Cozzie was a first-team All-SAA performer in 2023.

LAST TIME OUT: Carnegie Mellon capped a 7-6-4 overall record in 2023 with a 2-0 home loss to Case Western Reserve in the finale. The Tartans were winless in UAA play, going 0-4-3. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

OPENING STATEMENTS: The Tartans open their season with a pair of games on the trip east. Carnegie Mellon opens the year at York on Friday night before the Sunday contest here. It is the only time the Tartans leave Western PA or Eastern Ohio until UAA play starts in October.

HIGH-POWERED ATTACK: Carnegie Mellon averaged 2.0 goals per game last season and finished with six players who netted three or more goals. However, 26 of those 34 goals came in the month of September, getting the team off to a 7-1-2 start. The Tartans will have to replace the nine goals and 23 points lost to the graduation of first-team All-UAA selection Josh Baugh. Three of the other five return up front for CMU, however. Dominic Hoar-Weiler was honorable mention all-conference a rookie last season, anchoring the defense.
