Cross Country Teams Run at Battle for the Buggy

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's and women's cross country teams took part in their final non-championship race of the season when they ran at the Battle for the Buggy, hosted by Elizabethtown College and Millersville University, Saturday afternoon at Lancaster County Park.

The Bullets, who rested most of their top runners for next Saturday's Centennial Conference Championships, finished with 107 points to place fourth out of 12 teams in the women's standings and earned 294 points in taking ninth among 17 teams on the men's side.

Leading the way for the women's team was junior Beth Mounsey (Chapel Hill, N.C./Western Albemane), who placed 17th out of 88 runners. She was timed at 27:19 for the 6,000-meter course. Freshman Yaa Addison (Washington, D.C./St. Andrew's Episcopal School) placed 22nd in 27:44 while junior Kate Adair (Scottsville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) was 25th in 27:48.

Completing the team scoring were sophomores Amanda Pellowe (Alton, N.H./Prospect Mountain), who was 32nd in 28:14, and Erica Forzley (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor), who was 35th in 28:38. Freshman Mikaela Gerry (Springvale, Maine/Sanford) also ran and took 40th in 29:17.

Salisbury University captured the team title with 57 points while Erin Fisher of the Elizabethtown alumni team won the race in 24:15.

Freshman Tyler Keith (Florence, Mass./Northampton) was the top finisher for the men's team, as he placed 55th out of 123 runners. He scaled the 6,000-meter course in 23:09. Senior Greg Williams (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) placed 62nd in 23:37 while freshman Pat Landry (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) took 66th in 23:49.

Senior Andy Askins (Bangor, Maine/John Baptist Memorial) came in 81st in 25:17, and sophomore Ryan Lester (Merrick, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) placed 84th in 2559 to complete the team score.

Elizabethtown won the men's team title with a score of 49 points while Shippensburg University's Bryan Beegle broke the tape in 19:58.

Gettysburg hosts next weekend's Centennial Conference Championships. The women's 6,000-meter race kicks off at 11 a.m. before the men's 8,000-meter event will be held at noon. A mixed JV race will also be run at 12:45 p.m.
