Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and junior defender Alyssa Heimbach (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) each scored first-half goals and 13th-ranked Gettysburg tuned up for the Centennial Conference playoffs with a 2-0 win over Swarthmore College in a CC match-up and the regular season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

With the victory, Gettysburg (14-4, 8-2 CC) clinched second place in the final Centennial Conference standings. The Bullets will take on 17th-ranked and third-seeded Johns Hopkins University in the conference semifinals on Saturday at top-seeded and third-ranked Ursinus College.

The win also gave the Bullets their most wins since finishing 17-6 in 2005. In addition, Gettysburg improved to 9-1 at home this season while winning its fifth straight game.

Gettysburg outshot Swarthmore (5-13, 1-9 CC) 26-1 and held a 19-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior goalie Christina Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./Calverton School) needed to make just one save to break the Gettysburg single-season shutout record, as she recorded her ninth clean sheet of the season.

Hearn put the Bullets up 1-0 just under four minutes into the contest, dribbling into the circle and firing a shot between the legs of the goalkeeper for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Heimbach provided Gettysburg's final tally of the day, taking a pass from senior Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and slipping in a shot from the left post with 25:05 left in the opening half. The Bullets outshot the Garnet 12-1 in the opening half, but could do more against starting goalie Gina Grubb, who made nine saves in the stanza, with all but one coming in the final eight minutes of the period.

In the second half, Swarthmore switched to junior Katie Ashmore in goal. Facing a 14-shot barrage, she finished with seven saves while blanking the Bullets over the final 35 minutes.
