Gettysburg places 15 on Academic Squad

GENEVA, N.Y. – Fifteen members of the Gettysburg field hockey team have been named to the 2025 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad sponsored by OPA Winning Teams recently.

Senior Angie Flocco (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) joined juniors Caroline Ragan (Dallas, Texas/The Episcopal School of Dallas), Jillian Somers (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) and Maya Viscardi-Carelse (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) on the list.

Sophomores Delaney Ellsworth (Cos Cob, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall), Margaret-Ann Graves (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School), Sabrina Post (Poquoson, Va./Hampton Roads Academy), Colleen Ragan (Manasquan, N.J./St. Rose), Eleanor Ragan (Manasquan, N.J./St. Rose) and Sydney Yaw (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) were also honored.

Freshmen Emma DeBolt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern), Taylor Foley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy), Sofia Scalzo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset Secondary School), Ava Spear (Branchville, N.J./Somerville) and Elizabeth Terranova (Hockessin, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) also made the necessary grade after their first semester on campus.

Flocco is being recognized for the fourth time during her collegiate careers.

To be a member of the squad, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 through the fall semester of the 2024-25 academic year.

The sophomores, juniors and seniors were also selected to the Centennial Conference (CC) Academic Honor Roll after the fall season. Somers was an All-CC selection.

In total, more than 1,800 student-athletes were honored from more than 147 Division III institutions.

Two players were also named 2025 NFHCA Scholars of Distinction. Sophomore Sabrina Post and freshman Ava Spear were tabbed with the distinction for the Bullets.

This distinguished program honors undergraduate student-athletes who have exhibited exceptional academic excellence, achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher throughout the fall semester of the 2025-26 academic year. In total, 543 players across Division III earned the recognition.
