Box Score

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Gettysburg College women's basketball team put an emphatic stamp on the start of its season by dominating Wilkes University 83-40 in its opening game of the Frostburg State University Jim Crawley Tournament Friday night. Junior Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) led three Bullets in double figures with a game-high 20 points.

Gettysburg (1-0) turned in its most lop-sided victory in a season opener since beating York (Pa.) College 88-40 to start the 1975 season. With the win, the Bullets advance to the tournament championship and will play host Frostburg State, which defeated Guilford 74-70 in Friday's opening contest. The championship game is slated for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The Orange & Blue jumped all over Wilkes (1-1) in the opening half, netting the first 13 points of the game with six coming from Moser. The margin never dipped below 11 the rest of the way as Gettysburg pressed the issue on defense and on the glass. The Bullets forced Wilkes into 23 first-half turnovers which led to 19 points, while hitting the boards for 14 offensive rebounds which contributed to 14 second-chance points.

Gettysburg ended the opening half with an 11-3 run to take a sizeable 46-19 lead at the break.

Moser began the second half the same way she began the game with a jumper and the Bullets jumped ahead by as many as 50 (81-31) before settling on the final margin.

Gettysburg shot a respectable 42.9 percent from the floor, canning 33-of-77 field goal attempts, while holding Wilkes to just 28.8 percent shooting. The Bullets won the battle of the boards 51-39 with 23 caroms on the offensive end. The team scored 35 points off turnovers and notched 27 tallies on second-chance opportunities.

Moser finished 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Senior Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) added 18 points on seven field goals and sophomore Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) turned in 11 points in her first career start. Both Fields and McGrory grabbed five rebounds as well.

Every Gettysburg player available for action scored a point and grabbed a rebound. Senior Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and junior Mary Spicer (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) each dished out a game-high six assists as the Bullets notched 26 helpers on 33 buckets. Drechsler also added six points, six rebounds, and four steals. Sophomore Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) grabbed nine rebounds and scored five points, while classmate Lauren Dadigan (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) posted seven points and four assists.

Megan Kazmerski led the Lady Colonels with 13 points off the bench and Lindsey Gosse added six points and 10 rebounds.
