GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Kerrin Epstein (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) won the women's race as the Gettysburg College cross country teams each finished 1-1 against Dickinson College and Franklin & Marshall College at the Little Three Meet Tuesday evening at Gettysburg College.
The Bullet men defeated Franklin & Marshall 15-47 but lost to No. 9 Dickinson 38-19. The Red Devils defeated F&M 15-50.
On the women's side, Gettysburg topped F&M 20-41 but dropped a close 30-26 decision to the 33rd-ranked Red Devils. Dickinson beat the Diplomats 20-41.
The race marked the 44th annual men's Little Three Meet and the 29th annual women's event.
Pacing Gettysburg's men was junior
Clay Reynolds (Medway, Mass./Worcester Academy), who led a 5-6-7-8 Bullet finish in 16:14. Sophomore
Brenden Repack (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) was sixth in 16:27 and was followed by senior
Adrian Macdonald (Westwood, Mass./Westwood), who was seventh in 16:32, and senior
Jeff Butterworth (Glen Mills, Pa./West Chester East), who was eighth in 16:33. Rounding out Gettysburg's team scoring was sophomore
Jim Myers (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South), who took 14th in 16:53.
Greg Leak won the men's race in 15:58, edging out teammate Nick Karwoski by less than a second. The Red Devils claimed the top four men's finishers in the 52-man race.
Epstein took an early lead and never looked back in the 45-competitor women's race, cruising to an easy 36-second victory. She became the second straight Bullet to claim the individual title after senior
Sarah Fritz (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) won the race last year at Dickinson College.
Fritz finished third with a time of 19:40 in this year's race, placing just three seconds behind runner-up Sarah Romano of Dickinson.
The Bullets next finisher was freshman
Christine Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), who placed eighth in 20:10. Completing the team score were freshman
Emily Smith (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who was 10th in 20:29, and sophomore
Kyler Philbin (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding), who took 13th in 20:48.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, when it competes at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational.
