Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Gettysburg took on its second top-10 opponent in as many games, but was unable to come away with a victory for the second straight outing as the 13th-ranked Bullets lost by a 5-1 count to No. 8 Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference field hockey game Wednesday afternoon at the LVC Field Hockey Stadium.

Lebanon Valley (5-1) took control right from the start, outscoring the Bullets 4-0 in the first half, when senior goalie Caitlin Baro made seven of her eight saves.

Senior Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) led Gettysburg (5-2), scoring the team's lone goal.

The Bullets were coming off a 2-1 penalty-stroke loss to then No. 8 Johns Hopkins University on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen got on the scoreboard just under three minutes into the game, when Cait Eckenrode converted a feed from Shelly Lobach. Eckenrode then set up a goal by Allison Bicher with 25:26 left in the opening half, making it 2-0.

Lobach and Caitlin Vasey added back-to-back unassisted tallies just under four minutes apart to give LVC its four-goal lead at the break. The Bullets threatened late in the period, however, peppering Baro with a four-shot flurry with just over two minutes to go. However, Baro stopped all four shots.

Gettysburg held a 7-0 advantage in corners in the first half while both teams took nine shots.

Emala cut the gap to three when she tipped in a shot three and a half minutes into the second stanza, with sophomore Martha Tahsler (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) picking up the assist. However, the Dutchmen restored their four-goal advantage when Jocelyn Novak scored with 24:40 on the clock.

Lebanon Valley continued to pressure the goal in the game's final minutes, but senior goalie Christina Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./Calverton School) swatted away six straight shots in a 1:15 span just before the horn. She made 11 of her career-high 14 saves in the second half while posting the team's highest save total since Katherine Corkhill '08 stopped 14 shots in a loss to Ursinus College in 2004.

Lebanon Valley out-shot the Bullets 17-2 in the second half to finish with a 26-11 surplus for the game while Gettysburg held a 12-8 advantage in corners.

Gettysburg ends its three-game road trip on Saturday, when it hosts Haverford College at 4:30 p.m.
