GRANTHAM, Pa. – Freshman
Christine Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) finished second among 46 runners to lead the Gettysburg College cross country teams at a tri-meet versus Messiah College and Juniata College at Messiah on Saturday.
The women's team defeated Juniata 25-31 but dropped a 40-21 decision to 32nd-ranked Messiah. Gettysburg's men lost 47-16 to Juniata and 50-15 to Messiah.
Several of Gettysburg's top runners on both teams sat out Saturday's meet.
Esposito clocked a 20:31 over the 5,000-meter course while senior
Katie Haas (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) placed sixth in 21:11. Freshman
Kerry Campbell (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) took 13th in 21:26 while classmate
Yaa Addison (Washington, D.C./St. Andrew's Episcopal School) and sophomore
Amanda Pellowe (Alton, N.H./Prospect Mountain) rounded out the team scoring, placing 14th and 16th in 21:37 and 21:47, respectively.
Erin Rhodes of Messiah won the women's race in 19:42. Messiah also defeated Juniata, winning 21-38.
The Bullet men were led by junior
Nik Tama (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), who placed 12th among 46 harriers in 28:58 for the 8,000-meter course. Senior
Greg Williams (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) and freshman
Tyler Keith (Florence, Mass./Northampton) crossed the finish line in 25th and 26th in times of 30:29 and 30:30, respectively. Freshman
Pat Landry (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) took 31st in 30:49 while classmate
Brad Bissell (Shrewsbury, N.J./High Technology) completed the team scoring, finishing 32nd in 31:19.
Tyler Newhook won in 27:01 for Messiah, which also beat Juniata 22-35.
Gettysburg picks up its schedule on Friday, when it competes at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University.
