Men's Results | Women's Results

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College cross country teams opened with a strong showing amidst a competitive field at the Shippensburg University Cross Country Invitational. The women's team finished in a tie for second in a six-team field in the 4K led by senior Kerrin Epstein's (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) third-place showing, while the men's squad claimed third overall in the 6K on the strength of four-consecutive top-20 finishers.

Host and NCAA Division II Shippensburg took top team and individual honors in both races with a total score of 20 on the women's side and 22 on the men's. Neely Spence won the women's race with a time of 13:56 and Bryan Beegle covered the men's course in 19:04 to grab the top spot. Gettysburg and Dickinson College tied for second in the women's race with a total score of 72, while the Red Devils finished alone in second with 35 points in the 6K. The Gettysburg men totaled 82 points to finish well ahead of the remaining teams.

Coming off all-region and all-conference accolades last season, Epstein kicked off her final campaign with a time of 15:03, finishing in the middle of a pack of runners from Shippensburg. Fellow senior captain Sarah Fritz (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) finished just outside the top 10 in 11th, covering the course in 15:47.

The Bullets added two more top-20 finishers in freshman Christine Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and sophomore Kyler Philbin (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding), who finished 18th (16:23) and 20th (16:30), respectively. Rounding out Gettysburg's scorers was sophomore Amanda Pellowe (Alton, N.H./Prospect Mountain) with a time of 16:53 in 26th, just one second ahead of freshman Kerry Campbell (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity).

Senior Jeff Butterworth (Glen Mills, Pa./West Chester East) led a quartet of Bullets that finished just 11 seconds apart in the men's race. Butterworth turned in a 20:07 to take 16th overall, followed closely by junior Clay Reynolds (Medway, Mass./Worcester Academy), senior Adrian Macdonald (Westwood, Mass./Westwood), and sophomore Brendan Repack (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) in 17th (20:11), 18th (20:13), and 19th (20:18), respectively. Sophomore Jim Myers (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) capped Gettysburg scoring contingent with a time of 20:42 to finish 28th.

The Gettysburg cross country teams return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they host Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall College in the annual Little Three Meet. The event is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
