Moser Scores 1,000th Point as Bullets Maintain Perfect Mark at Washington

Gettysburg wins 79-63 behind best shooting performance of the year

Caitlin Moser ended Saturday's game at Washington with exactly 1,000 career points.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Junior Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) became the 11th player in school history to net 1,000 career points as Gettysburg College kept its perfect record intact with a 79-63 victory over Washington (Md.) College in Centennial Conference women's basketball action inside the Cain Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

Gettysburg (12-0, 7-0 CC) won its 13th-straight game dating back to last season's final regular season contest with Moser stealing the headline as the second-fastest Bullet to reach the 1,000-point plateau with her 17th and final point on a free throw with 54 seconds remaining. Jennifer Bengel '06 reached the mark in 64 games, one less than Moser, en route to a school-record 1,701.

Senior Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) posted team highs with 19 points, eight rebounds, and three three-pointers and moved one step closer to joining Moser in the 1,000-point club, moving up to 14th on Gettysburg's list with 965 career points. Sophomore Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) tied a personal mark with a dozen points and added seven boards for the Bullets.

Washington (5-7, 3-4 CC) grabbed an early 6-2 lead as Gettysburg missed four of its first five shots and committed five turnovers in the first four minutes of action. The deficit didn't last long as the visitors jumped out with the next dozen points, half of which came from Kinsley, to take a 14-6 lead at 11:10.

The Shorewomen managed to trim to the Bullets' advantage to six points several times in the opening period, but each time the Orange and Blue retaliated with a quick bucket, the last by Kinsley sparking an 8-0 run to put the score at 29-15 at 3:52. Sophomore Lauren Dadigan (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) put in a lay-up just before the first-half buzzer to spot the Bullets their largest lead of the first half at 37-22.

The Bullets pushed the lead to 17 (39-22) on a pair of Mary Spicer (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) free throws to open the final stanza, but Washington refused to let the visitors cruise to a victory. Over the next six minutes, the Shorewomen out-scored Gettysburg 19-6 and closed to 45-41 on a three-pointer by Jane O'Donnell at 13:57.

Moser, who scored 13 points in the second half, put in back-to-back shots to pad the Gettysburg lead and following a pair of Washington free throws, the visitors pushed the advantage back to double-figures with 11:33 to play. The Shorewomen would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way with the Bullets leading by as much as 20.

One game removed from its worst shooting performance of the season, Gettysburg posted its best outing on Saturday. The Bullets canned 33-of-61 attempts from the floor for a blazing 54.1 percent. The Orange and Blue also held a significant advantage on the boards, out-rebounding Washington 43-22 with 15 caroms coming on the offensive glass alone.

Moser finished 8-of-10 from the floor with the one free throw and grabbed seven rebounds. Fields was 8-of-15 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Dadigan added eight points and fellow sophomore Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) came off the bench for nine points and four rebounds. Spicer and senior Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) led an efficient passing game with a combined 12 assists against just four turnovers.

Four players reached double-figures for Washington led by Erin Kile's 19. Meghan Tait and Maggie King each connected on four three-pointers en route to 17 and 13 points, respectively, while O'Donnell added 11 points off the bench.

Next up for Gettysburg is a rematch with Bryn Mawr College on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played at Haverford College's Gooding Arena in Haverford, Pa.
