Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – With playoff implications on the line, the Gettysburg College field hockey team earned a 3-0 Centennial Conference victory over McDaniel College Tuesday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Gettysburg (6-8, 4-3 CC) entered the game tied with McDaniel (5-8, 3-4 CC) for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Centennial Conference. The Bullets now sit in sole possession of fifth place in the conference standings, a half game in front of idle Swarthmore College (3-3).

The win marked victory No. 99 at Gettysburg for head coach Barb Jordan.

Junior Martha Tahsler set up each of the Bullets first two goals to finish with a career-high two assists.

The Bullets, who outshot the Green Terror 22-6, received all the scoring they would need with 2:58 left in the first half when sophomore Emily Kleinburd converted on a corner. Tahsler started the play with a crisp corner pass to the top of the circle, where Kleinburd smashed in a hard roller to give the Bullets a 1-0 halftime advantage with her third goal of the year.

Gettysburg outshot McDaniel 10-1 in the opening half, but Stephanie Thomson kept it close with five saves for the Green Terror.

The Bullets needed a little less than five minutes to double their advantage in the second half. With 30:11 on the clock, senior defender Alyssa Heimbach took a centering pass from Tahsler and blasted a low shot from 10 yards out for her third tally of the season.

Senior Nicole Meredyth set the final score 21:12 left. On a scramble in front, Meredyth chipped a shot from the left post off a defender and into the cage for her second goal of the year.

Sophomore Megan Feeg made all four of her saves in the second half, including three inside the final seven minutes, to come away with her second shutout of the season. Thomson finished with seven saves.

The Bullets play another big Centennial Conference game on Saturday, when they visit Swarthmore at 1 p.m.
