Game Notes (PDF)

The Gettysburg College women's basketball team will kick off the 2010-11 campaign by defending its tournament title at the Frostburg State University Jim Crawley Tip-off Tournament on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 19-20).

Opening Tip
Gettysburg opens its 2010-11 campaign at the Frostburg State University Jim Crawley Tip-Off Tournament for the second consecutive season. It's a not-so familiar field of foes for the Bullets, though the team did face host Frostburg in last season's tip-off tournament championship game.

Live Coverage
You can follow all the action from Friday and Saturday's games by tuning into Frostburg's live stats: http://www.sidearmstats.com/frostburg/wbball/index.htm.

The Series
Gettysburg has faced its three potential opponents a total of nine times on the hardwood. The Bullets have never faced York College out of New York - not to be confused with the more local York College of Pennsylvania which the squad tangles with on Nov. 28. The Orange and Blue have faced Mt. Aloysius just once - a 72-67 loss in 2002-03. Gettysburg's track record against Frostburg State stands at five wins and three losses with the Bullets winning each of the last three meetings.

The Coach
Head Coach Mike Kirkpatrick is Gettysburg's all-time leader in coaching victories with a record of 295-225. He has led the Bullets to a winning record in 18 of his 21 seasons and is coming off a season in which he was named Centennial Conference Coach of the Year after his squad set a record for wins (24) and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Divisoin III Tournament.

Defending Champs
The Orange and Blue kicked off the 2009-10 campaign with a bang by winning the Jim Crawley Tip-Off Tournament. Gettysburg knocked off Wilkes 83-40 in the opener as tourney MVP Caitlin Moser pumped in 20 points and the team grabbed 23 offensive rebounds. In the championship, the Bullets led by double-figures for the majority of the second half in taking down the hosts 63-56. Lauren Dadigan netted a dozen points on a perfect night from the field (5-for-5), while Moser added 10 points. Courtney Fields joined Moser on the all-tournament squad with 27 combined points in the two games.

2009-10 Season Recap
Gettysburg put together a record-breaking season last winter. The squad won 24 games - besting the school record by two - and went 17-3 in conference play to tie for the top spot in the regular season standings. The Bullets won both the Frostburg State Tip-Off Tournament and its own Days Inn Tournament as part of a season-opening 13-game winning streak. After receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, Gettysburg defeated Farmingdale State (68-57) and Utica (71-55) to reach the Sweet 16. The team was one shot away from reaching the Elite 8, but Babson held off the challenge for a 71-68 victory in overtime.

National Rankings
Gettysburg received notice in two national preseason polls. The Bullets were ranked 16th and 17th in rankings put together by D3hoops and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), respectively. It is the first time Gettysburg has been ranked in a preseason polls and it comes on the heels of a season in which the team was ranked for the first time during the regular season in 15 years.

Conference Favorite
The Bullets were selected as the favorite to win the Centennial Conference this season by the coaches and sports information directors. Gettysburg received 13 first-place votes and 192 points to edge runner-up Muhlenberg, which totaled nine first-place nods and 188 points. It is the first time Gettysburg has been selected as the preseason favorite in the conference.

Preseason All-American
Senior Caitlin Moser begins her final campaign as a preseason All-America Fourth Team selection by D3hoops.com. A two-time first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection, Moser has never earned national honors from the website, though she was a first-team WBCA All-American in 2009-10.

By the Numbers
Senior Caitlin Moser enters the year fifth on the Bullets' all-time scoring list with 1,258 points. She is 443 points shy of Jennifer Bengel's record of 1,701 set in 2006. Just based on Gettysburg's 25-game regular season schedule, Moser would need to average 17.7 points per game to tie the mark.

Hot Shots, Part Trois
Junior Julie McGrory has canned 51-of-114 three-pointers in her first two seasons and is the school's career leader in percentage at 44.7. McGrory helped power the Bullets into the postseason by averaging 15.5 points per game and canning 21-of-43 three-point attempts (.488). She scored at least 20 points four times during the stretch run, including 20 against Utica in the second round of NCAAs.

NCAA Debut
No Bullet has turned in a greater postseason performance than what Caitlin Moser pulled off in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against Farmingdale State last winter. Moser notched the fourth-highest (tied) scoring output in school history with 34 points and she added 14 rebounds. She was 14-of-22 from the field and 6-of-11 from the free throw line.

New Face
Sophomore Alyssa Oursler spent last season as an all-conference member of Washington & Jefferson's basketball squad. Ourlser started all 28 games for the Presidents and was the team's third-leading scorer at 9.9 points per game. She led the Presidents Athletic Conference in free throw shooting at 89.9 percent and she was an honorable mention all-conference selection.

Coming Out Party
Junior Sara Kinsley put up double-figures in the final two NCAA playoff games last season. She only missed two of her 13 shots in tallying 16 points against Utica and 12 points against Babson. She averaged 7.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while finishing second in the conference in field goal percentage (.525) last season. With those numbers pro-rated over 40 minutes of action, Kinsley would have put up 16.5 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game.
