Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall College forced visiting Gettysburg College into its worst shooting performance in nearly two years in taking down the Bullets 66-53 in a Centennial Conference women's hoops match up Wednesday night.

Gettysburg (4-3, 1-3 CC) suffered its second consecutive loss to a conference foe by hitting just 26.2 percent (17-of-65) of its field goals. That was the team's worst mark since hitting one-quarter of its attempts against Johns Hopkins University in a 64-45 loss on Feb. 10, 2009.

Despite the porous shooting effort, the Bullets were able to hang with Franklin & Marshall (4-3, 3-1 CC) for the majority of the game, thanks in large part to a game-high 32 turnovers by the hosts. Gettysburg trailed by just three at the break following four consecutive made free throws by junior Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and senior Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing).

The Diplomats dialed up the offense early in the final stanza and used a 16-4 run to open its largest lead of the night at 46-31. Franklin & Marshall ended the spurt by converting on its final six possessions, including an old-fashioned three-point play by Alexa Barbush.

Gettysburg jumped right back into the fray with a run of its own kicked off by a jumper by McGrory and a three-point play by senior Mary Spicer (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy). The Diplomats' lead stood at just six (46-40) following a lay-up by freshman Katie Earley (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) at 10:41.

That would be the extent of the Bullets' push as the squad went without a made field goal for the next six minutes until a lay-up by Moser at 4:21. During that period, Franklin & Marshall upped its lead to 15 and it kept it above double-figures for the remainder of the game.

Moser led Gettysburg with 17 points while posting eight rebounds and five steals. McGrory posted eight points and Spicer tallied nine. Junior Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and set a personal best with six blocked shots.

Pauley paced the Diplomats with a game-high 23 points in addition to grabbing eight rebounds. Allison Bauer and Colleen Bott posted 15 and 10 points, respectively, while Alison Menna and Barbush each grabbed nine boards.

Gettysburg is off until after the start of the New Year when its hosts the Days Inn Tournament on Jan. 2-3. The Bullets will face Randolph College in the opening game at 6 p.m., while St. Mary's (Md.) College and the University of Scranton will square off at 8 p.m.
