Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College held visiting Dickinson College without a field goal over the final 11 minutes and moved one step closer to hosting the 2010 Centennial Conference Tournament with a 49-33 victory inside Bream Gym Wednesday night. The Bullets improved to 22-2 overall and 17-2 in the conference with the win.

The 24th-ranked Bullets tied the 1983-84 team with their 22nd win of the year and extended their conference-best win streak to nine games. Senior guard Allie Drechsler completed the steals record hat trick by claiming the program's single-season record midway through the second half, while the team was led offensively by sophomore Julie McGrory's 15 points.

The momentum swung back-and-forth for nearly 30 minutes with Gettysburg leading by as many as eight (19-11) in the opening period before a 12-2 run by Dickinson (15-8, 11-8 CC) gave the visitors a 23-21 lead to start the second half of play.

Alesha Sisco gave the Red Devils a 26-23 advantage with a lay-up at 15:19. After missing her first eight attempts from the field, McGrory connected on her next three to push the Bullets back ahead 29-26.

Sisco kept Dickinson alive with a jumper at 11:08 to pull to 29-28, but that would be the visitor's final field goal of the game as the team went 0-for-7 and committed 10 turnovers during the remaining time.

The Bullets out-scored the Devils 26-7 to end the game with McGrory putting up 14 of those points.

Offensively, Gettysburg posted one of its worst all-around shooting performances of the season, making just a third of its field goal attempts (20-of-60), a quarter of its three-pointers (3-of-12), and less than half of its free throw tosses (6-of-14). The Bullets made up for the lack of offensive flow with another dominating defensive outing, forcing Dickinson into a 12-for-42 (28.6 percent) effort from the field, including 1-of-11 (9.1 percent) from three-point land, and 27 turnovers. Gettysburg also controlled the rebounding department 44-30 with 18 of those caroms coming on the offensive end.

Drechsler posted four steals in the game with her only theft of the second half pushing her past 1998 alum Jen Dravis for the school's single-season mark. Drechsler, who owns the game (12) and career (219) steals records, now has 77 on the year. She also posted a game-high five assists.

Despite the slow start, McGrory netted her sixth effort of 15 or more points in the last seven games. Senior Courtney Fields and sophomore Sara Kinsley posted double-doubles for the Bullets, each finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Caitlin Moser led the rebounding effort with a dozen boards and added six points, three assists, and four steals.

Sisco tallied 13 points and eight rebounds for Dickinson, while Carole Dempsey finished with 12 points, all in the first half.

Gettysburg is one game away from clinching the top seed and home-court advantage for next weekend's (Feb. 27-28) CC Tournament. The Bullets are one game ahead of Muhlenberg College (19-4, 16-3 CC) with one final contest on tap in the regular season. That game will take place at third-place McDaniel Colllege (17-6, 15-4 CC) on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. The Green Terror edged the Orange and Blue 51-48 in the teams' first meeting on Jan. 20.
