GETTYSBURG, Pa. – In the wake of a major snowstorm that forced a slew of rescheduled contests across the nation, Gettysburg College and Ursinus College soldiered on in Bream Gym on Sunday. In an eerily similar outcome to the first meeting, the Bullets stifled the Bears in the second half en route to a 60-38 victory in Centennial Conference women's hoops action.

Gettysburg (19-2, 14-2 CC) tied its third-best win total in school history and moved into a tie for first place in the CC with the victory. The Bullets dialed up the defense in the second stanza, holding Ursinus (9-12, 6-10 CC) to just five second-half field goals to blow open the game. In a 59-38 Gettysburg decision on Dec. 12, the Orange and Blue held the host Bears to just four made shots in the final period.

Sunday's affair was close early with the Bullets leading most of the way, including 16-10 at 8:35 following an offensive rebound and putback by senior Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls). Ursinus pulled to a single possession several times in the waning minutes, but Gettysburg closed with the final six points on an old-fashioned three-point play by sophomore Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and a three-pointer by Fields to take a 29-20 lead at the break.

The Bears connected on the opening shot of the second half, but the squad would hit only one more field goal over the next 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the Bullets cranked up the offense as sophomore Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) put up eight points, including a pair of three-point plays, and Fields turned in back-to-back buckets just before the 10-minute mark, capping a 23-8 run and giving the hosts a 52-30 lead. The lead never dipped below 16 the rest of the way.

Ursinus was stagnant from the field in the final period, connecting on only 5-of-25 attempts from the floor (20 percent), including hitting just one of nine attempts from beyond the arc. Gettysburg turned in its second-best defensive effort according to the opponent's field goal percentage, holding the visitors to just 24.5 percent (13-of-53) for the game. The Bullets finished 22-of-55 from the field and won the rebounding competition 42-36.

With 19 victories on the year, Gettysburg matched the efforts of the 1984-85 team which finished 19-6 and won the Middle Atlantic Conference championship. The only teams to win more games than this season's squad are the 1983-84 team which went 22-4 and the 1994-95 team which finished 20-5. In all of those prior years, Gettysburg qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament.

McGrory continued her recent tear with a game-high 15 points, netting double-figures for the fourth time in her last six games. She was 5-of-13 from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Fields and sophomore Lauren Dadigan (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each finished with 13 points, the former grabbing a game-high eight boards and the latter notching a personal best for points and adding six caroms.

One week after breaking the school's all-time record for steals, senior Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) moved closer to the single-season mark with four swipes on Sunday. She now has 70 steals on the year and trails only Jen Dravis '98 who had 76 in 1996-97.

Ryann Burke was the only Bear to reach double-figures, finishing with a dozen points. Lindsay Teuber added eight points, two blocks, and three steals.

Gettysburg returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, Feb. 10, with a home date with Franklin & Marshall College (9-11, 5-10 CC). The women open at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8.
