AMHERST, Mass. – Babson College picked up its second consecutive overtime victory in the NCAA Division III Tournament by scoring the final five points to edge Gettysburg College 71-68 inside LaFrak Gym on the campus of Amherst College Friday night. The loss caps a record-breaking season for the Bullets who close with a 24-5 overall mark.

Junior Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) led Gettysburg with 21 points, including the game-tying lay-up with 28 seconds left. Senior Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) added 18 in her final collegiate contest, while sophomore Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) netted 15.

Fans couldn't have asked for a better game between two evenly matched foes. The lead changed hands 13 times and never reached double-figures. Gettysburg faced the largest deficit of the game at eight points (45-37) with 11 minutes left in the game, but the Bullets bounced back with a 19-6 run to gain a five-point lead (56-51) with 4:33 on the board.

Babson (28-3), which beat Colby College in double overtime to reach the Sweet 16, responded in kind with a 7-0 run, capped by a Nicole Wurdeman lay-up which gave the Beavers a 58-56 advantage with just over two minutes left. Moser provided her first clutch bucket with a driving lay-up to her right to knot the game before the minute mark.

Babson put up three shots on its next possession, earning offensive rebounds on the first two and then getting a base-line jumper from Sarah Collins to take a 60-58 lead with 34 ticks left. Gettysburg set up a play following a timeout, tossing the ball to Moser who once again drove down from the right wing and powered up for a game-tying lay-up.

The Beavers had an opportunity for a potential game-winning shot, but senior Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) swiped the ball away and Gettysburg had a chance to win it. The Bullets nearly pulled off the victory in regulation, but Drechsler's lefty lay-up and Moser's putback attempt both came up short. Babson grabbed the ball as the clock wound to zero.

In overtime, the teams traded buckets to remain tied. Following a Moser free throw which made it 65-64, Wurdeman struck again with offensive rebound and putback to put Babson on top 66-65. McGrory turned in the next dramatic shot, nailing a three-pointer from the top of the key to spot the Bullets a 68-66 lead with 1:19 left on the clock.

Instead of giving way to Gettysburg's momentum swing, the Beavers came right back aggressively and forced their way to the line. The team hit five of its next six free throw attempts to retake the lead for good. The Bullets fell shy in their shooting attempts as a Moser lay-up was off the mark with 19 seconds left and a last-ditch three-pointer by McGrory sailed wide just before the buzzer.

The first half was nearly a mirror image of the second, only Gettysburg surged ahead to start and Babson battled back. The Bullets led 14-8 until a 6-0 Beavers' run tied the game at 10:01. The Orange and Blue came right back with a 6-0 run of its own to regain its largest lead.

Babson turned out a 10-2 run capped by a Damis Adewumi three-pointer at 2:43 to take a 24-22 lead, marking Gettysburg's first deficit of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Fields gave the Bullets some momentum heading into the break with a three-pointer to set the score at 25-24.

Fields put up a dozen first-half tallies 8-of-22 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and six rebounds. McGrory came up big in the second half with 13 of her points and finished 4-of-9 from the field and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) added a dozen points off the bench.

Fields and Drechsler finished off outstanding careers at Gettysburg in the loss. The duo rank 1-2 in career games at Gettysburg, Fields finishing with 108 and Drechsler one behind, and they tied the most wins by a senior class at 71.
