Bulllets Back up No. 1 Ranking, Top Merchant Marine 19-3

Reichert Ties Career-High With Five Goals

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – One day after earning their first No. 1 ranking in eight years, the Bullets lived up to their billing with a 19-3 win over Merchant Marine Tuesday afternoon on a gorgeous sunny day at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Gettysburg (5-0) took command from the opening face-off, scoring six times before the Mariners (2-1) attempted a shot. The Bullets led 9-0 at the end of the first quarter and 14-1 at halftime.

Senior Josh Reichert tied a career-high with five goals, including three in the opening 6:56, to lead the Bullet offensive attack. Senior Joe Brody added four goals and two assists for a six-point day while junior Danno Lynch also notched a hat trick, scoring three goals to go with one assist.

Junior Andrew Ryan contributed two goals for Gettysburg while junior #J.C. Ward handed out a career-high three assists. Sophomore Pat Sartory had one goal and two assists while senior Kyle McGrath and junior Chris Cahill# each had one goal and one assist.

Sophomore John LeClerc made three saves while playing the opening 37:31 to come away with the win in goal. Sophomore Lucien Reichert made two stops in 16:32 while freshman #J.T. McCook# turned aside one shot over the final 5:57.

Gettysburg's 19 goals marked the team's highest offensive output since its 20-3 win at Messiah College on April 16, 2008.

All but two of the 47 players on Gettysburg's roster entered the game.

Brian Flannery had one goal and one assist for Merchant Marine. Keegan Boyle suffered the loss in goal, yielding all but one of the team's goals and making 13 saves while playing the opening three quarters.

Gettysburg, which won its 18th straight home game, held decided advantages in shots (59-18) and ground balls (45-22). The Bullets also maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the game, making half as many turnovers (28-14) as the Mariners while winning 19-of-26 face-offs. Freshman Nick Avedisian was 8-for-11 at the X while junior Luke Santoro was a perfect 5-for-5. Junior Matt Griffo went 5-for-10.

Gettysburg, which entered the game holding its opponents to 67.6 percent on clears, continued to perform well on the ride, as Merchant Marine was just 13-for-23.

Reichert scored three of his team's first six goals in the opening quarter, when Gettysburg out-shot Merchant Marine 20-2. The Bullets tacked on two more goals at the start of the second quarter to go ahead 11-0 before the Mariners Sean Zakow put the visitors on the scoreboard with 11:43 to go before halftime. But the Bullets struck for two more tallies to go into the locker room up 13.

Gettysburg outscored the Mariners 4-0 in the third quarter to make it 18-1 heading into the final period. Merchant Marine scored twice before sophomore Tyler Feeley capped the day's scoring when he found the back of the net with 5:39 left.

The Bullets play their Centennial Conference opener on Saturday, when they host No. 14 Haverford College at 1 p.m.
