GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Longtime assistant coach
Aubrey Shenk has been promoted to interim head coach of the cross country and track & field teams at Gettysburg College, Athletic Director
David Wright has announced.
Shenk replaces
Steve Shutt, who resigned from the position last month.
Shenk has served as an assistant for the Bullets men's and women's cross country teams for the past 26 seasons, and he has also been an assistant coach on the men's and women's track & field teams for the last 16 years, working primarily with distance runners. He has coached numerous national qualifiers and All-Americans in his tenure with the squads, including individual national qualifiers in three consecutive outdoor track & field seasons from 2003-05.
Most recently, Shenk helped coach three Bullets to national-qualifying performances during the 2009-10 season. In cross country,
Kerrin Epstein '10 qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships when she finished third at the NCAA Mideast Regional. She went on to place 54th among 279 runners at the national championships. Epstein also provisionally qualified for nationals in the 10,000-meter run during outdoor track season, as did
Adrian Macdonald '10 in the 1,500-meter run and rising senior
Clay Reynolds in the 800-meter run.
Shenk served as the head track & field coach at Camp Hill High School from 1986-88 and was a PIAA Track & Field Official from 1989-93. A licensed psychologist manager at the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill, Shenk earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Juniata College and his master's in clinical-community psychology from Arcadia University.
