BALTIMORE – Johns Hopkins University outscored Gettysburg 4-0 in the first half and the host Blue Jays topped the Bullets 5-2 in a Centennial Conference field hockey game played in wintry conditions Saturday evening.
The loss ended the Centennial Conference playoff hopes for Gettysburg, which finished the year 7-9 and 5-5 in conference play. The Bullets had reached the CC tournament in each of the past eight seasons.
Hopkins (10-7, 7-3 CC), which clinched the No. 3 seed and a first-round bye in the conference playoffs, got on the scoreboard with a pair of goals over a 51-second spurt early in the first half. The Blue Jays added two more tallies 10 minutes apart to take a 4-0 lead with 6:39 remaining in the period.

Kelly Spieker struck with 26:01 on the clock to make it 4-2. However, Hopkins thwarted the Bullets rally when it scored with just under 20 minutes left, setting the final verdict.

Megan Feeg finished with eight saves for the Bullets, as did Blue Jay starting keeper Kim Stein. Hopkins held a 21-18 advantage in shots while both teams were awarded 12 penalty corners.
