Box Score

YORK, Pa. – Sophomore Cori Younghans hit the game-tying three-pointer with 21 seconds left to force overtime, but host York College picked up six of the final seven points in the extra session to send Gettysburg away with a 63-58 setback inside Charles Wolf Gym on Sunday evening.

Gettysburg (1-3) was led by senior Sara Kinsley's 16 points and eight rebounds. Younghans added a personal best 12 points for the visitors. Aja Wallpher led York (4-1) with a game-high 17 points.

The largest lead of Sunday's non-conference tilt came midway through the opening period as sophomore Caroline Murphy nailed a jumper to put the visitors up 17-11. The Spartans would tie the contest at 22 before three free throws gave Gettysburg a 25-22 lead at the break.

The final period featured five lead changes and seven ties. Gettysburg went ahead 31-26 on a lay-up by Kinsley at 17:42. York came right back with the next six tallies to take a 33-31 lead on a three-pointer by Kelsey Murphy at 16:29.

The margin would stay within a possession for the remainder of the period until a pair of free throws 37 seconds apart gave the hosts a 52-47 advantage with just 48 seconds left.

Younghans shouldered the load in the final minute, pulling Gettysburg to within three with two free throws with 42 ticks left. After forcing a York turnover, the Bullets called timeout and drew up the equalizing play with Younghans draining a three-pointer with only 21 seconds on the board. The Spartans had an opportunity to end the game in regulation, but Brittany Hicks' lay-up was off the mark.

Gettysburg never led in the extra period with a lay-up by Younghans and a free throw by freshman Taylor Flatau tying the contest at 54 and 57, respectively. Free throws by Kelsey Murphy and Aja Wallpher pushed the Spartans in front 61-58 and 6-2 center Madeline Sloan preserved the lead by blocking Kinsley's putback attempt with 10 second left. Sloan polished off the win at the charity stripe.

Gettysburg finished just 19-of-63 (30.2 percent) from the field compared to 19-of-45 (42.2 percent) by the hosts. The Bullets out-rebounded the Spartans 40-38 with 18 caroms on the offensive glass. The visitors also forced 21 turnovers.

Kinsley was largely held in check by York's size, shooting 5-of-14 from the field en route to her fourth double-figure scoring effort of the season. Junior Alyssa Oursler tallied seven points and four rebounds, while Caroline Murphy came off the bench for seven rebounds.

Kelsey Murphy connected on four three-pointers as part of her 15-point effort for York, while Wallpher finished 5-of-11 from both the field and the free-throw line, adding five boards, three assists and three steals. Sloan grabbed seven rebounds and recorded four of York's nine blocked shots.

Gettysburg returns to its Centennial Conference schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 29, when Bryn Mawr College visits Bream Gym at 7 p.m.
