TOWSON, Md. – Gettysburg limited host Goucher College to 13 shots and the 12th-ranked Bullets held on to beat the Gophers 6-4 in non-conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.

The Bullets (2-1) fell behind 2-0 early but outscored the Gophers 6-0 over the second and third quarters. Gettysburg has now held its three opponents to a combined 14 goals this season, with no team scoring more than seven against the Bullets thus far. Junior Billy Grayson and senior John Odierna keyed the Bullet defense with three caused turnovers apiece while sophomore #J.T. McCook# made six saves.

With the game tied 2-2 at halftime, juniors Pat Sartory and Dylan Schmitz fueled a 4-0 Bullet third quarter. Sartory had a hand in three of those goals, scoring one and assisting on two others, while Schmitz notched both of his tallies during the decisive stretch.

Rory Averett led Goucher (0-2) with three goals while Connor Mishaw made seven saves.

Senior Matt Griffo went 8-for-12 on face-offs for the Bullets.

The Gophers led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, with Averett scoring 1:51 into the contest and Kyle Bonaco converting man-up with 7:25 on the clock.

After being outshot 8-4 in the opening 15 minutes, the Bullets flipped the switch during the decisive second and third quarters, when they held a 17-1 shot advantage. Senior #J.C. Ward# put the Bullets on the scoreboard at the 11:49 mark of the second quarter before sophomore Bobby DeWees tied the game with 8:57 left in the opening half.

Gettysburg went in front to stay when Schmitz, a transfer from Bryant University, scored his first goal as a Bullet, taking a feed from senior Chris Cahill with 10:17 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bullets then put together a three-goal flurry to go up 6-2. Sartory made it a 4-2 game with 7:58 on the clock before freshman Martin Manilla struck off a Sartory pass just over two minutes later. Schmitz completed the run off another Sartory assist with 3:05 remaining in the quarter as Gettysburg's lead swelled to four.

The Gophers refused to fold, however, and outshot the Bullets 4-2 in the final period. Averett scored with 7:55 left, then again with 3:39 remaining to set the final score.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, when it visits third-ranked Salisbury University at 1 p.m. in a non-conference game that can be viewed on both on TV (WMAR-ABC-2, Baltimore) and online (ESPN3).
