SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University converted 4-of-8 man-up opportunities and the third-ranked Sea Gulls defeated No. 12 Gettysburg 8-2 Saturday afternoon in a regionally-televised non-conference men's lacrosse game at Sea Gull Stadium.

Despite allowing a season-high in goals, Gettysburg (2-2) has now held an opponent to a single-digit scoring total for the fourth time in as many games this season. The Bullets also limited Sam Bradman, the 2010 Division III Midfielder of the Year, to one goal and one assist after entering the game with 15 goals.

Tony Mendes led Salisbury (5-0), who outscored Gettysburg 7-0 in the second and third quarters, with three goals and one assist while Erik Krum also scored three goals. The Bullets received a career-high 11 saves from sophomore #J.T. McCook while seniors Danno Lynch and Chris Cahill# scored one goal each.

Although they outshot Salisbury 31-30, the Bullets were held to their lowest scoring output since an 11-2 loss to Washington College in the 2003 Centennial Conference championship game.

In a tightly-officiated game, a total of 16 penalties were called, with each side being whistled eight times each.

For the second straight meeting between Salisbury and Gettysburg the game featured the top-two winningest coaches in NCAA men's lacrosse history in Salisbury's Jim Berkman, who entered with 371 wins, and Gettysburg's Hank Janczyk, who has 347 career victories.

The Bullets gained possession off the opening face-off and proceeded to chew up nearly three minutes off the clock before the Sea Gulls were whistled for a slashing penalty. But Gettysburg turned it over on a crease violation 17 seconds into the penalty, and at the other end, Salisbury struck on a quick restart. From behind the goal, Cannone found a wide-open Krum, who went down low to put the hosts up 1-0 with 10:15 on the clock.

A great save from McCook set up Gettysburg's first goal. After another quick restart, McCook turned away a low shot before Lynch scored on a give-and-go. Lynch dished it to junior Pat Sartory in transition, then took a centering feed before going top shelf for his fifth goal of the season to make it 1-1 with 5:27 to go, and it held up as the score at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Salisbury cashed in on its man-up unit, scoring three of its four goals with a man advantage. The Sea Gulls went on top to stay 1:23 into the period and 39 seconds following a Gettysburg illegal body check, as Mendes bounced in a shot from the left post on a Cannone dish.

Salisbury pushed its advantage to 3-1 with 9:56 showing. The Sea Gulls used their ride to force a turnover at midfield, and Krum broke free for a 1-on-1 before sending home a runner in transition.

Salisbury continued its run with a couple of quick man-up goals late in the quarter. With 4:27 showing, Zordani got free from on the left post off a pass from Mendes, and less than a minute later, Mendes drilled in a one-timer from Bradman to make it 5-1 at the intermission.

The Gulls outshot Gettysburg just 16-13 in the first half but won 6-of-8 face-offs. McCook made six saves in the stanza while Rodriguez stopped seven shots.

Salisbury made it three straight man-up goals 20 seconds into the second half on a penalty that carried over from the end of the first half. A cutting Bradman took a feed from Zordani on the left post and drilled in his 16th goal of the season to make it 6-1.

A pair of quick goals made it 8-1 with 4:55 left in the third quarter. Mendes blasted in his third goal of the game on Cannone's third assist before, on a fast break following a face-off, Krum reached his hat trick nine seconds later to make it a seven-goal game.

Gettysburg ended the run when Cahill cashed in on a man advantage with 11:29 left, taking a pass from junior Dylan Schmitz and sending home a shot from the left wing.

The Bullets pick up their schedule on Tuesday, when they host Merchant Marine at 3:30 p.m. in another non-conference match-up.
