Fords Dodge Bullets in Playoff Opener

Haverford advances to Centennial semifinals

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College punched its ticket to the Centennial Conference semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Gettysburg College in the opening round of the conference tournament on Thursday, Nov. 1.
 
The fourth seed, Haverford (21-9) will face host and top seed Franklin & Marshall College (17-13) on Saturday. Fifth-seeded Gettysburg sees its season come to a close with a 15-14 record.
 
The Fords clinched the victory with 25-18, 25-21, 25-17 decisions. The hosts trailed by no more than one point in the first set and ended with a 9-3 run. The Bullets jumped out to a 7-3 advantage in set two before Haverford mounted an 8-4 run to take a 14-11 lead. Gettysburg pulled within one at 19-18 before the Fords picked up back-to-back kills by Meg O'Day and Nina Mutty en route to the win.
 
Haverford never trailed in the final set, scoring six of the first seven points and jumping out to an 11-3 lead. Gettysburg would get no closer than six points the rest of the way.
 
Junior Sarah Gorski led the Bullets with a dozen kills and three total blocks. Sophomore Cydney Bracken hit double-figure kills for the 13th time this fall with 11.
 
Senior Katie Wilson put up 19 digs to lead the defensive effort. Junior Lizzy Kuhn tallied 15 assists and three aces, while junior Kelly Milione logged seven digs.
 
Haverford had three players reach double-figure kills with Emily Mills posting 11 and Keri Godbe and Meg O'Day each tallying 10. Godbe and Madison Fuelling each put up 11 digs and Olivia Walsh dished out 37 assists.
