Bullets Rally for 56-47 Win at Dickinson

Gettysburg out-scores Red Devils 31-17 in second half

CARLISLE, Pa. – Gettysburg held Dickinson to just three field goals in the final period as the Bullets rallied late for a 56-47 victory over the Red Devils in Centennial Conference women's hoops action inside the Kline Center Wednesday night.
 
Gettysburg (13-6, 8-5 CC) trailed for most of the contest, but with the defense holding Dickinson (4-15, 1-13 CC) to only 17 second-half points, the Bullets used an 11-0 run late in the second stanza to secure the lead with less than five minutes remaining.
 
Senior Alyssa Isler (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) continued her offensive surge with a game-high 15 points, marking her third double-figure scoring output in the last four games. Senior Caroline Murphy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished with a dozen points and six rebounds, while sophomore Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) added 11 points and seven rebounds.
 
Mary Martin led the Red Devils with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jennifer Smith posted 10 points and Sarah Phillips added 11 points off the bench.
 
The lead only changed hands twice in the contest with Dickinson jumping in front of the visitors 11-8 following a three-pointer by Phillips at 13:49 of the opening half. The hosts would lead by as many as six in the first period before settling for a 30-25 lead at the break.
 
The Red Devils would maintain the advantage for most of the final period, even jumping ahead by nine points (35-26) following a trey by Rachel Sisco at 15:10. Gettysburg chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to two (35-33) with a seven-point spurt, but a jumper by Liz Schultz put the margin back to four (37-33) with 11:47 to play.
 
That would be Dickinson's last field goal for nine minutes. Free throws helped the hosts put the lead at six (43-37) with 7:28 remaining, but the Bullets charged back with an 11-point run to grab the upper-hand. Murphy accounted for seven points in the run, including a conventional three-point play that made it 48-43 at 4:30.
 
Martin ended Dickinson's drought and cut the deficit to two (48-46) at 2:40, but another three-point play by the Bullets helped quiet the threat. Isler found Duggan under the basket for the hoop and the harm to make it 51-46 with just 1:25 remaining.
 
Isler sealed the victory with four free throws inside the final 31 seconds of action.
 
After shooting 10-of-25 (40 percent) in the opening period, Dickinson was held to 3-of-22 (13.6 percent) from the floor in the final stanza. Gettysburg out-rebounded the hosts 42-35 with 14 boards coming on the offensive glass.
 
Gettysburg returns to action against Muhlenberg College (12-8, 9-5 CC) at home on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. The Bullets trail the Mules by half a game for fourth in the conference standings.
