Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – For the fifth consecutive season, the field hockey showdown between Gettysburg College and Muhlenberg College was decided by one goal as the Mules picked up the game-winner with 5:39 left in overtime for a 2-1 decision at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

With the defense holding firm, the Bullets broke open the scoring in the 31st minute. Shortly after a green card on the visitors, sophomore
Lindsay Kraus (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) slipped a pass through the defense to junior
Tori Sankey (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) for the quick flip into the goal. It was Sankey's sixth goal of the campaign.
Gettysburg forced a penalty corner as time expired in the first half, but the Bullets were denied another tally as Emma Rosenthal swiped away an attempt by Sankey.
Mowery posted a pair of saves in the 62nd minute to preserve the lead, but Muhlenberg capitalized on a penalty corner with 3:44 remaining. An attempted clear by a Gettysburg defender was intercepted by Emily Davis who slapped the ball into the cage.
The Bullets nearly ended the game in regulation as sophomore
Philippa Lumsden (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) shot a ball past Rosenthal with about 20 seconds to go. The attempt did not reach the cage as Claudia Theriault knocked the ball away to force overtime.
Mowery posted a save early in the extra session and Gettysburg came right back down the field and earned a penalty stroke as junior
Samantha Wright (Darien, Conn./Darien) was knocked down on a breakaway. Junior
Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) pushed the stroke wide left, keeping the score deadlocked.
The Mules caught a break in the 80th minute when a sideline pass by Laura Holdman bounced to the middle of the field to Davis, who lined a shot into the back of the goal.
Muhlenberg held a 14-13 edge in shots and a 10-6 lead in penalty corners.
Mowery finished with eight saves for Gettysburg, while Rosenthal tallied four stops for the Mules.
Gettysburg returns to action on Monday with a home date with Bryn Mawr College at 4 p.m.
