Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa.Sometimes the ball just has to bounce the right way and Gettysburg received a couple timely bounces in the final points of a marathon third set to close out a sweep of Dickinson College inside Bream Gym Thursday night.

Gettysburg (13-6, 3-2 CC) jumped out with 25-17 and 25-22 wins in the opening two sets against Dickinson (9-10, 2-4 CC) before the teams turned in an epic finale. In a contest that featured 11 ties and five lead changes, the Bullets tallied the final three points to score a 33-31 victory.

Senior Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) continued her dominant play at the net with a match-high 19 kills. Bergin has posted 15 or more kills in each of her last five outings. Freshman Francesca Garison (Metuchen, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) added eight kills, while fellow first-year Kasey Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) posted seven kills on 13 attempts (.538 attack percentage).

Junior Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) dished out 35 assists and put up a dozen digs. Junior Katherine Gilbert (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) logged 15 digs and now sits just 27 shy of 1,000 for her career. Freshman Caroline Sequeira (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) totaled 11 digs.

The Bullets cruised through the opening set and erased a three-point deficit midway through set two to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Momentum remained in the Orange and Blue's favor early in set three with a 14-10 advantage.

Aided by seven hitting errors by Gettysburg, the Red Devils stormed back with a 10-3 run to jump in front 20-17. Dickinson's lead stood at 23-20 following a kill by Lauren Ahern.

The Bullets rallied with the next four points, including the last two on kills by Bergin to set up match point. That was just the beginning of a series of back-and-forth rallies that resulted in nine ties and five lead changes over the set's final 19 points. Dickinson jumped in front 31-30 on a solo block by Norma Jean Park and the set appeared all but wrapped up after a hard hit ball aimed at Gettysburg's back row on the next volley.

Amazingly, Gilbert managed to get the ball in the air and Blair's hand was in the right spot to direct the line drive over the net and past the Red Devil defense. A hitting error by the visitors set up match point for the Bullets and freshman Sierra Conboy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) put the match to rest with a hard hit ball to the middle of the court.

It was the most points scored by Gettysburg in a set since the start of 25-point rally scoring in 2008.

Park led Dickinson with 10 kills and four blocks. Arielle Misrok put up a match-high 26 digs.
