Bullets Roll to Three Wins

Gettysburg defeats King’s, Penn College, and Keystone

Colin Devlin '20 works his way to a pin against King's. Devlin won all three of his matches at 141 pounds.
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College wrestling team completed a strong weekend by claiming three more dual wins Saturday afternoon inside Bream Gym.

After beating McDaniel College in its Centennial Conference opener Friday night, Gettysburg (6-2) claimed three wins over non-conference foes on Saturday. The Bullets defeated King's College 33-15, Keystone College 49-6, and Penn College 51-3.

Gettysburg surged in front of King's (7-10) with three consecutive wins at 133, 141, and 149. Junior Noah Malamut (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep) rolled up Jake Daniel for a pin at 1:43 in the bout at 133, while freshman Colin Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) earned a fall with 37 seconds left in the second period at 141. Junior Jake Bracken (Chatsworth, Calif./Harvard-Westlake School) earned a decision at 149 to push his team out in front 15-3.

The Monarchs won three of the next four matches, but senior Camden Stoops (East Prospect, Pa./Eastern York) put the win in the bank with a pin with seven seconds left in the first period at 197. Sophomore Paul Triandafilou (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) earned a forfeit at heavyweight to close the contest.

Gettysburg dropped only one match to Keystone, which is in the midst of its first varsity season after a 25-year hiatus. Junior Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) put the Bullets on the board by pinning Josh Rivera in 4:39. Freshman Traken Sutton (Wethersfield, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) added his first collegiate pin early in the third period at 149 pounds.

Junior Quinn Merrigan (Canton, Mass./Canton) cruised to a 13-2 major decision at 165 and senior Brandon Carcuffe (Oxford, N.J./West Morris Central) followed up with an 11-4 win at 174. After an injury default to sophomore Dan Ebert (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde), the Bullets closed with a forfeit to Stoops and a pin by Triandafilou.

The Bullets also took nine of 10 bouts against Penn College. Ogozalek (2:37), Devlin (0:38), and Bracken (1:46) all took care of business with first-period pins. Sophomore Brandon Gallagher (Stewartsville, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic) scored his first collegiate pin in just 49 seconds at 184.

The heavyweight bout featured a strong battle, but a second-period takedown and a third-period escape was enough for Triandafilou to defeat Dylan Otis 3-2. Triandafilou improved to 13-0 win the win.

Gettysburg visits Elizabethtown College in a non-conference match next Friday at 7 p.m. The Bullets follow up with a pair of conference contests against United States Merchant Marine Academy and host Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, Jan. 21, at noon.
