Bullets Head to Haverford for CC Playoffs

Gettysburg faces Fords in semis at 6 p.m.

Gettysburg seeks its second conference title this weekend.
GETTYSBURG, Pa. The postseason run continues for the Gettysburg College women's basketball team with a matchup against host and top seed Haverford College in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Championship this Friday at 6 p.m.

The Final Four: Haverford (19-6, 16-4 CC) will be hosting the semifinals and championship for the second time in four seasons. The Fords also hosted and won the event in 2014. Joining Haverford are three perennial playoff contenders in Muhlenberg (18-7, 15-5 CC), Dickinson (18-7, 15-5 CC), and Gettysburg (19-7, 14-6 CC). Muhlenberg is making its 23d appearance and has claimed nine titles, including each of the last two. Dickinson is in the tournament for the 10th time and won its last championship in 1994. Gettysburg is in it for the 14th time and won its only title in 2013.
 
The Coaches: Gettysburg mentor Nate Davis has led his team to the postseason in each of his two seasons and has accrued a record of 38-13. In his first year, Davis led the Bullets to the CC semis. Haverford coach Bobbi Morgan is in her ninth season at the school and has put up a 129-100 record. Morgan has led the Fords to the postseason six-straight years. Ron Rohn has won seven Centennial titles in 16 seasons at Muhlenberg. He has tallied a record of 324-110 at the school. Katherine Bixby is in her third season at Dickinson and has led the Red Devils to the playoffs in each of the last two. Bixby is 41-34 in her career at Dickinson.
 
The Series: Gettysburg split the season series with both Haverford and Muhlenberg, while dropping both meetings with Dickinson. All-time, the Bullets are 56-25 against Dickinson, 28-11 against Haverford, and 21-30 against Muhlenberg.
 
Last Meeting with Haverford: Gettysburg ended a nine-game losing streak to Haverford with a 56-34 decision inside Bream Gym on Feb. 4. The Fords connected on just 16-of-62 (25.8 percent) field goals and were out-rebounded 49-26. Junior Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) set the program's record for double-doubles with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Kendra Meredith (Boyds, Md./Northwest) tallied 15 points and seven assists, while freshman Emma Hahner (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) turned in 10 points and 1 rebounds. Sierra Berkel paced Haverford with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Last Meeting with Muhlenberg: Muhlenberg dropped 50 points in the second half to get by Gettysburg 84-65 inside Memorial Hall on Feb. 9. After hitting 17-of-32 (53.1 percent) shots in the opening half for a 42-34 lead, the Bullets managed just 7-of-30 (23.3 percent) in the final two periods. Junior Emily Gibbons set the program mark for single-season rebounds and finished with 15 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Emma Dorshimer tallied 17 points for the Bullets. Chelsea Gary posted 24 points and 10 rebounds, Rachel Plotke scored 19 points, and Brandi Vallely tallied 17 points and 12 assists for Muhlenberg.
 
Last Meeting with Dickinson: Dickinson completed the season sweep and handed Gettysburg its only home loss of the year 58-51 on Feb. 7. The Bullets grabbed the lead early in the fourth quarter, but a six-point run by the Red Devils put them back in front for good at 50-46 with 6:45 to play. Sophomore Emma Dorshimer and junior Emily Gibbons each scored 17 points with the latter adding 11 rebounds. Helen Roberts produced 19 points and Kassidy Lesher added 16 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Gettysburg Preview: Gettysburg rolled to its fourth win a row with a 79-67 decision over Johns Hopkins in the first round of the conference playoffs. The Bullets took over the game midway through the third quarter and sealed the victory with a big fourth quarter from junior Emily Gibbons. Gibbons turned in 15 of her game-high 27 points in the final frame, including a bucket to clinch 1,000 career points. She became just the fourth Bullet to reach the milestone in her junior season. Sophomore Emma Dorshimer dropped in 21 points, while junior Kendra Meredith dished out 10 assists. Gibbons paces the conference in scoring (19 ppg), rebounding (13.8 rpg), field-goal percentage (58.2), and double-doubles (22). She ranks fifth in the nation in rebounds per game and third in double-doubles. Gibbons has established a new conference record with 14 consecutive double-doubles. Dorshimer ranks second in the league in scoring and with 818 career points, she is just two tallies shy of passing Caitlin Moser '11 for the most points scored by a Bullet through her sophomore season. Gettysburg paces the Centennial in field-goal percentage (42.8), free throws made per game (13.1), defensive rebounds per game (30.9), and rebounding margin (8.0).
 
Looking Ahead: The winners of Friday's semifinal games will meet in Haverford for the Centennial Conference championship on Saturday at 4 p.m. The conference champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship which is set to start March 3-4.
