Red Dragons beat Bullets 24-18

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – SUNY Oneonta won the final three bouts to erase a six-point deficit and pull off a 24-18 victory over Gettysburg College in a non-conference wrestling match up inside Bream Gym Thursday night.

Gettysburg (3-2) opened up with the lead after senior Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) scored his team-leading 14th pin of the season at 125. He took down Michael Muldoon just seconds into the match and put him on his back at 2:05. Ogozalek improved to 20-8 overall on the season and moved into third place on both the program's season and career lists for falls. He now has 32 career pins.

After Oneonta (6-2) tied the contest with a forfeit at 133, six of the next seven bouts went to decision. The Red Dragons came away with close wins at 141 (7-2) and 157 (8-4), while sophomore Colin Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) improved to 10-5 this season with a 5-0 win over Tyler Brazinski at 149 pounds.

Gettysburg took the lead on back-to-back wins by junior Colin Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) and sophomore Austin Roskos (Lawrenceville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) at 165 and 174, respectively. Kowalski broke out to a 6-0 lead in the first period and turned a second-period takedown into his fifth pin and 20th victory of the season. Roskos tallied the final three points including a match-clinching takedown in the final minute to secure a 5-2 win over Jacob Mansman.

Despite late comebacks by the Bullets at 184 and 197, the Red Dragon grapplers held on for a pair of close wins to tie the match. The heavyweight contest featured two nationally-ranked opponents in eighth-ranked Paul Triandafilou (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) and fifth-ranked James Bethel. Bethel, who defeated the Gettysburg junior 5-0 at the national tournament last March,  managed an early first-period takedown in the rematch. After escaping to start the second period, the Oneonta senior took Triandafilou down again and managed to get his shoulders turned to the mat for the fall.

Gettysburg travels to Penn College to face the Wildcats and King's (Pa.) College on Saturday beginning at noon.
