Gettysburg College Athletics

Tonight's non-conference game marks the 23rd all-time meeting between Gettysburg (6-4-1) and No. 5 Messiah (9-2) in a series that dates back to 1988. The Falcons lead the all-time series 14-5-3, including wins in four of the last five matchups. The last Bullet victory came by a 1-0 margin on Sept. 10, 1998. Messiah is 9-0-2 in the series since that game but the two teams have not played since 2009.

WHEN LAST WE MET: Gettysburg held Messiah College off the scoreboard for the entire first half but the then-top-ranked Falcons refused to be denied in the second half, weathering an hour-long lightning delay to earn a 3-0 non-conference victory on Sept. 24, 2009. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

LAST TIME OUT: Johns Hopkins, ranked seventh, scored just over seven minutes into the game en route to a 5-0 win over Gettysburg on Saturday night. Jordan Weinberg recorded a pair of shots on free kicks to lead the Bullets. Maria Romo-Nichols led the Blue Jays with a goal and an assist. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

TOP-RANKED SCHEDULE: Gettysburg plays its third top-seven opponent of the season tonight. The Bullets dropped a 1-0 game at then-No. 6 Christopher Newport on Sept. 8 before falling 5-0 to No. 7 Johns Hopkins on Saturday night. Entering the week, Gettysburg's opponent's winning percentage was .635, which ranks 34th in Division III. The first regional rankings, which will be an alphabetical listing, is due out next Wednesday.

LAST TIME OUT: Messiah scored a pair of second-half goals by Kristina Akselsen to claim the 2-0 victory over visiting Widener. Messiah held a 28-1 advantage in shots. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

DEFENSE WINS: The Falcons have allowed just one goal - a DeSales PK just 16 seconds in the contest last Tuesday - since a 3-1 loss to William Smith on Sept. 16. Over the five-game winning streak, Messiah is outscoring its opposition 16-1 that included seven goals against the Bulldogs after that early penalty kick. Ava Wert and Raegan Salamone have combined for seven shutouts this season and a 0.55 goals-against average. The two keepers have each made 10 saves and allowed three goals.
