THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Shinya Lee (Rochester, N.Y./Holderness Prep) got things started with a layup and assisted an Arnolie 3-pointer for a 5-0 Gettysburg lead early in the first quarter.
Mackenzie Szlosek made it 7-0 just 30 seconds later, and the Shorewomen scored their first points of the game on a Kaitlyn Boggs second-chance layup. Two at the charity stripe and a 3-pointer by Peyton Berger allowed the Shorewomen to tie things up, capping a 7-0 run of their own. Arnolie hit a triple to give Gettysburg back the lead and kick off a 10-0 run that carried through the end of the quarter to yield a Bullets 17-7 advantage.
• Washington trimmed the deficit as close as six points off two Kiersten Rose free throws in the middle of the second quarter and several turnovers by both teams finally gave way to an Arnolie 3-pointer to make it a 23-14 game. With 2:25 left in the half, the Shorewomen used two different shooters to put together a 6-0 run that left them trailing by just three, 23-20, going into the break.
• Gettysburg began to pull away in the third quarter en route to a 20-point lead. Lee hit a jumper in the opening 13 seconds of the half to kick off a Gettysburg 12-5 run that made it a 35-25 game. Holsinger contributed half of the Bullets' points within the stretch. Washington got the lead down to single digits with a triple by Abby Meredith, but the Bullets closed out the last five minutes of the period outscoring the Shorewomen 16-3. Szlosek contributed eight of those 16 points and the score read 51-31 going into the final quarter.
• Washington used an 11-2 run to start the fourth quarter to close within 11 points before Priore hit a jumper to move the mark back to 13. Gettysburg continued with a 9-2 run over two minutes to reestablish their 20-point lead, 66-46. The back-and-forth final period ended with a Washington 11-6 run to set the final 69-57 margin.
