Gettysburg College Athletics

Today's non-conference game marks the eighth all-time meeting between Gettysburg (0-0) and Alvernia (0-0) in a series that dates back to 2016. The Bullets lead the all-time series, 5-2. The last Wolves victory came in the last meeting at Gettysburg in 2022, 1-0.

WHEN LAST WE MET: Gettysburg scored a goal in every quarter and held Alvernia to only one goal in the second to earn a 4-1 win in the season opener for both teams last season. Hailey Rhine (Denver, Colo./St. Mary's Academy) led the Bullets with two goals. Olivia Hess scored the Wolves' lone goal of the game. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

LAST TIME OUT: Washington (Md.) scored two goals in the third period. Gettysburg countered with a score in the fourth quarter the Shorewomen finished up the 2-1 victory in the 2023 season finale. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

A FULL HOUSE: Nearly half of the Bullets' roster in 2024 are seniors. Gettysburg will look to its 13-member senior class to help the program continue to build on last year's 6-10 campaign. The squad will need to replace a third of its offensive production from a year ago with the graduation of Hailey Rhine (five goals) and Gaby Markunas (three). However, Gettysburg returns eight of its 11 starters, including the vast majority of its defensive and midfield units. Emilia Saccento returns to anchor the defense in the cage. She has started 22 of the 24 games in which she has played over her first two years in a Bullets uniform. 

LAST TIME OUT: Alvernia wrapped up a 6-11 season in 2023 with a 2-1 loss at Widener. After a scoreless first quarter, the Golden Wolves got on the board just 39 seconds into the first second quarter but Widener got the equalizer before halftime and netted the game-winner in the third quarter. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

CENTENNIAL TOUR: Alvernia plays four Centennial Conference opponents in its first six games of 2024. After today's opener in Gettysburg, the Wolves return home to host Muhlenberg before playing Haverford and Franklin & Marshall in mid-September.

EXPERIENCED GROUP: Alvernia had six players start all 17 games last season. Of that group, five return to the lineup in 2024. Kathryn Palmer and Olivia Hess both scored four goals last year. Palmer added four assists for a team-high 12 points. At the other end of the field, Lexi Boettcher is back in cage to anchor the defense.
