OPENING STATEMENTS: Gettysburg was chosen 10th in the annual preseason polling of conference coaches. Muhlenberg was chosen seventh. However, just nine points separated the Mules and Bullets in the balloting. Johns Hopkins was the unanimous favorite to win its 10th title.
SHOOTING BLANKS: Gettysburg has shut out its last two opponents. Emilia Saccento has been the backstop of both of those blankings and enters today's conference opener with a 0.96 goals-against average, which ranks second in the conference. The team's 0.96 GAA is 24th in Division III. The Bullets have allowed more than one goal in a game just twice this season - a 2-1 double-overtime loss at Shenandoah and a 4-3 win at Ohio Wesleyan.
