LANCASTER, Pa. –
Nala Shearer (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County), a sophomore on the Gettysburg volleyball team, has been named Centennial Conference (CC) Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 13-19.
It is the first time she has earned the honor.
Shearer led the Bullets (12-8, 2-2 CC) to a 1-1 week, averaging 5.50 digs per set. In a 3-0 win over Haverford on Saturday, she recorded a career-high 32 digs and was the first Gettysburg player to register 30 or more digs in a three-set match in 20 years. She also had 12 digs in a 3-2 loss at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. She added three aces and four assists on the week.
For the season, she leads the defense with 262 digs (3.80 dps). She also has 21 aces and 56 assists on the year.
Gettysburg returns to action at home against Dickinson on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
