LAS VEGAS, Nev. –
Kimberly Hopkins (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), a senior on the Gettysburg women's basketball team, was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 15th Annual D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas.
Hopkins helped the Bullets (7-4) notch a pair of wins at the tournament. Gettysburg downed No. 15 and previously undefeated Amherst 73-59 in the opening game on Sunday before topping Occidental 68-53 on Monday.
She matched
Olivia Jones (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) as the leading scorer on the week, averaging 12.5 points over the two days. Hopkins also added 7.0 rebounds per game, which was second-best on the squad. She shot 45.8 percent from the floor, hitting 11 of 24 field goals and was 2-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Against Amherst, Hopkins scored 10 points to go with seven rebounds while shooting 45.5 percent. Against Occidental, she added 15 points and seven rebounds while shooting 46.2 percent.
As a team, the Bullets had four players average double figures in scoring over the two games and four players record no fewer than 11 rebounds. Gettysburg shot 43.5 percent as a team and finished with an 89-75 rebounding advantage over the two games.
Each of the eight women's teams in attendance had one representative on the all-tournament team and Hopkins was selected as most outstanding from among the three teams that went 2-0 on the week.
Gettysburg returns to action at York (Pa.) on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
