LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two members of the Gettysburg softball team have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) All-America team, released on Wednesday night.
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) earned second-team honors while
Audrey Bergan (Encinitas, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) claimed third-team accolades.
Forry, a senior pitcher, earns her first All-America honor after claiming her third appearance on the all-region team. The Centennial Conference (CC) Pitcher of the Year for the third straight season, she appeared in 42 games with 33 starts. Recording 24 complete games that has included 10 shutouts, she went 30-7 in the circle with a 1.26 earned-run average. She struck out 215 batters in 216 innings while walking just 35. She also had four saves. Her strikeout totals and program-record wins are both best in the conference and top five in the nation. She had seven games this season with eight or more strikeouts and threw a perfect game against Stevens on Mar. 1.
Bergan, a sophomore outfielder, claims her first All-America accolade after making her second all-region appearance. The first-team all-conference player started all 49 games and led the team and conference with a .466 average and 76 base hits. She scored 56 runs and added 25 RBIs from the leadoff spot. She also walked 24 times for a .537 on-base percentage and 1.083 OPS. Her hit and run totals are single-season program records. She had a 25-game hitting streak earlier this season and has recorded multiple hits in 26 games this year.
The two players are the first-ever NFCA All-Americans in program history.
The Bullets (41-8, 15-1 CC) won their first-ever regional championship and advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Div. III championship tournament.
