LANCASTER, Pa. – Seven members of the Gettysburg softball team have been named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) team, released on Thursday.
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) earned Pitcher of the Year honors for the third straight year, becoming just the fourth pitcher in conference history to earn the recognition at least three times. The Gettysburg coaching staff was also named Coaching Staff of the Year.
Forry joined
Audrey Bergan (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) and
Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) on the first team.
Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa./The Episcopal Academy),
Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and
Renee Laczkowski (Erie, Colo./Erie) were named to the second team while
Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) was tabbed honorable mention.
Forry, a senior pitcher, earned her third straight first-team all-conference nod. She is the first Gettysburg pitcher to claim Pitcher of the Year honors three times. She has appeared in 37 games with 28 starts. Recording 21 complete games that has included eight shutouts, she is 27-5 in the circle with just a 0.98 earned-run average. She has struck out 202 batters in 192 innings while walking just 29. She also has four saves. Her strikeout totals and program-record wins are both best in the conference and top five in the nation. She has seven games this season with eight or more strikeouts and threw a perfect game against Stevens on Mar. 1.
Bergan, a sophomore outfielder, earned her second straight first-team all-conference nod. Starting all 44 games, she leads the team and conference with a .479 average and 70 base hits. She has scored 54 runs and added 22 RBIs from the leadoff spot. She has also walked 24 times for a .562 on-base percentage and 1.118 OPS. Her hit and run totals are single-season program records. She had a 25-game hitting streak earlier this season and has recorded multiple hits in 24 games this year.
Shaw, a freshman outfielder, earned her first all-conference honor. Starting all of 43 of her appearances, she is third on the team with a .374 batting average and second on the team with 52 hits. She has added 16 RBIs and is second on the team with 42 runs scored. She has also walked 17 times. She has 18 multiple-hit games this year and hit for the cycle against Wartburg on Mar. 2 with five RBIs.
Hopple, a senior catcher, earned her first all-conference honor. Starting all 34 of her appearances, she is hitting .324 on the year with 33 hits that includes 11 doubles and a triple. She is second on the team with 36 RBIs while also scoring 19 runs. She has nine games this season with multiple hits.
Pelekis, a sophomore shortstop, earned her first all-conference honor. Starting all 40 of her appearances, she is second on the team with a .402 batting average and ranks second with 51 hits. She has seven doubles and two triples while also driving in 29 runs. She has scored 24 runs of her own. She has 15 multi-hit games that included three-hit outings in both of the games of the doubleheader at Franklin & Marshall on Apr. 15.
Laczkowski, a freshman third baseman, earned her first all-conference honor. Starting 40 of her 42 appearances, she is hitting .320 with 40 hits that includes eight doubles and a team-high four home runs for a .504 slugging percentage. She leads the team with 41 RBIs and has scored 16 runs. She has 12 games this season with multiple hits.
DeFreitas, a junior first baseman, earned her first all-conference honor. Starting 37 of her 40 appearances, she is fourth on the team with a .365 batting average. She has 42 hits that includes eight doubles. She is third on the team with 34 RBIs while scoring 17 runs. She has nine games this season with multiple hits.
The coaching staff, led by third-year head coach
Brooke Kalman, earned the conference coaching staff of the year honors. It is the first time the staff has been recognized with that accolade.
Junior
Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) was Gettysburg's representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
The Bullets (38-6, 15-1 CC) earned the second seed in the CC tournament, forcing the if necessary game in the conference championship before falling to Swarthmore, 9-2. Gettysburg will learn its regional site and opponents when the field is announced at 11 a.m. on Monday.
