COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College wrestling team competed at the non-scoring Ursinus College Fall Brawl on Saturday, Nov. 14. Juniors Bobby Christopher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and DJ Neri (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) led the Bullets by reaching the semifinals of the championship brackets of their respective weight classes.

One week after winning his first individual title at heavyweight, Christopher turned in another strong showing at Ursinus. He had to earn his victories on Saturday, first clipping the host's Frenando Jones 4-3 and then downing Elizabethtown College's Mike Daub 5-2 to reach the semifinals. Christopher's third bout of the day featured two of the top grapplers in the Centennial Conference with McDaniel College All-American Brock Glotfelty pulling out a 5-1 decision to hand the Bullet junior his first loss of the season. Christopher's day came to an end in the semis of the consolation bracket with a 3-1 overtime loss to Ed Minelli of Ursinus.

Neri, who placed fifth in the 174-pound division at last week's King's College Monarch Invitational, replicated Christopher's performance by winning each of his first two bouts to reach the semis. He beat a pair of conference opponents in McDaniel's Scott Forrester (12-3) and Ursinus' Mike Kevlin (11-8) before getting pinned in 35 seconds by the Apprentice School's Will Harcum. Myles Tometta capped Neri's day with a 9-6 decision in the consolation semis.

Freshmen Joe Fiore (Hicksville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Kevin Poplaski (North Reading, Mass./St. John's Prep) were the leading winners for Gettysburg, each scoring three victories on the day. Competing at 157, Fiore secured his second pin of the season in 4:32 and following a narrow two-point loss (4-2) to David Dennis of Washington & Lee University, he bounced back to win each of his first two consolation bouts, the first by medical forfeit and the second over Matt Peters of McDaniel by an 8-6 count. Pattrick McIntosh of Apprentice ended Fiore's day in the consolation semis 7-0.

Poplaski won his first heavyweight contest 3-1 over Anthony Greenstine of Ursinus and advanced in the championship bracket with a forfeit in his second contest. After suffering a defeat, he registered his second collegiate pin in 4:03 over Fernando Jones in the consolation bracket. Ed Minelli narrowly escaped Poplaski 3-2 before his bout with Christopher.

Additional multiple winners included sophomore Matt Danielson (Bethesda, Md./Bullis School) and junior Luke Mitchell (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City). Danielson was beaten in his first bout at 133, but came right back with a pair of decisions over conference opponents to reach the semis of the consolation bracket before being eliminated. Mitchell won a pair of matches at 184 for the second-straight week. He won his opener in the championship bracket by major decision (12-1) and he picked up a 12-7 decision in his first consolation contest.

Next up for the Bullets is their first dual meet of the season at Lycoming College on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m.
